Sawmill Operators + Machinists

Claymark is New Zealand’s largest manufacturer and exporter of premium pine products made from sustainably managed radiata pine plantations in New Zealand’s central North Island.

We have a vacancy for a Sawmill Operator at our Thames site. We are looking for a practical, safety-focused team player with sound mechanical aptitude and a positive approach to work. Previous sawmilling experience, including experience operating key workstations, would be an advantage; however, training may be provided to the right candidate.

The successful candidate will help ensure the safe, efficient day-to-day operation of the sawmill and the production of high-quality timber products. This role reports to the Shift Supervisor.

This is a shift-based role
Monday – Thursday, 5.00am – 3.30pm

Key function and duties

• Operate and assist with sawmill machinery, including the headrig, edger, trim saw, hori infeed, debarker and resaw
• Support the safe, continuous and efficient operation of plant and equipment, reporting issues promptly
• Produce timber to the required grade and quality standards
• Follow health and safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe work area
• Participate in training and maintain competency across relevant workstations

Personal Specifications

• Previous sawmilling or machine-operating experience is preferred
• Mechanical aptitude, practical problem-solving skills, and good numeracy and literacy
• A strong commitment to safety, quality, and reliability
• A positive team player with good communication skills and physical fitness
• Willingness to learn and train across multiple sawmill workstations
