SCADA Design Engineer

About the role

The SCADA Project Designer is responsible for creating construction level design documents (AutoCAD Drawings) for SCADA systems, with respect to utility scale Solar, Solar + Storage, and other hybrid energy plants. The SCADA Designer will work with SCADA Engineers and other Subject Matter Experts, designing industrial network for Solar PV plant application, integrating Project requirements into power plant controller programs. The system must bring together multiple sub-systems of the renewable energy plant to meet the operational and regulatory needs of the owner and the grid operator. The SCADA Designer is responsible for graphically representing the logic for complex custom applications, capturing client system requirements. They must coordinate with client and their design partners, to develop the required logic, and develop HMI screens.

Key responsibilities

• Engage with Developers, Owner's Representatives, Utilities, EPCs, Vendors, internal Product, Project, Design, and Commissioning personnel
• Contribute to the design of monitoring and control systems for utility scale renewable energy projects
• Apply working knowledge and experience with Remote Terminal Units (RTU's), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's), and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI's)
• Work with controls technologies including SEL-RTACs and ControlLogix
• Work with HMI platform Ignition
• Work with Historian platforms including Ignition, MSSQL, InfluxDB, and Canary Labs
• Work with network technologies including SEL, Cisco, Hirschmann, Fortigate, and Moxa
• Develop detailed design documentation including System Architecture Diagrams, Device Points List, IP lists, Logic Diagrams, and HMI mockups
• Generate project documentation including CAD Drawings
• Perform any other actions required by management

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Technology, or related field, preferably with controls major
• Ability to effectively communicate with team members and business partners
• 2+ years of SCADA development, specifically for solar PV + Battery installations
• Working knowledge of programming language
• Experience in setting up virtual machines on physical servers
• Working knowledge of industrial protocols such as Modbus-TCP, DNP3, OPC-UA, IEC 61850 and ICCP
• Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously
• Participated in or led Continuous Improvement/Lessons Learned program
