What they need

The Hangout Spot LLC | Full-Time | Fairfield County, CT

About The Hangout Spot

All children have a right to meaningful relationships with others. That belief is at the heart of everything we do at The Hangout Spot. Our mission is to eliminate barriers to friendship and empower children to experience the joy of meaningful connections throughout their lives.

When The Hangout Spot was founded, we started as a behavior-analytic social skills development center. As we’ve grown, we’ve come to see just how many opportunities there are to make a difference by meeting children where their social worlds happen. Through individualized 1:1 programming, we bring support directly into schools and camps, helping children navigate everyday experiences, build skills, and form meaningful connections with the people around them. For children who need an alternative to traditional school programming, we also provide individualized instruction in our center, alongside our social skills classes and developmental playgroups.

No matter where we work with a child, our purpose stays the same. We want to help children overcome the barriers that can make friendship difficult and give them the skills and confidence to build relationships that last. We’re growing our reach because we believe our impact can extend far beyond our walls, and we’re looking for team members who share that belief and want to be part of making it happen.

About the Role

This full-time position focuses primarily on individualized 1:1 programming across school, camp, and center settings within our school and camp support program. You’ll work directly with children to help them build meaningful skills, participate more fully in their environments, and navigate the social experiences that matter to them.

Your work may include providing support in school and camp settings, delivering individualized programming at our center for students who need an alternative to traditional school placements, and helping children generalize skills across the environments where they learn, play, and interact. You’ll also have opportunities to support our center-based social skills groups as needed, allowing you to work across programs and see the many ways children can grow when they receive thoughtful, individualized support.

You won’t be doing this work alone. Our team collaborates closely with Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), who provide clinical guidance, ongoing supervision, and support to help you grow in your role. We’re looking for someone who enjoys building relationships with children, values collaboration, and wants to help make meaningful social experiences possible for every child.

Employees must have flexibility to accommodate school and camp assignments and afternoon programming needs, as needed. Individual shifts are determined by client and program schedules.

We’re committed to providing our team with consistent, predictable income by guaranteeing a minimum of 30 hours per week, even when client cancellations or scheduling changes occur. Team members have the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week based on program and staffing needs.

Who We're Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is deeply dedicated to our mission and believes every child deserves meaningful relationships, respect, and the opportunity to thrive. The right person is passionate about assent-based, neurodiversity-affirming care and understands that a child’s experience matters just as much as their progress. We want our kids to feel happy, relaxed, and engaged, and we’re looking for team members who share that commitment in the way they build relationships, approach learning, and support children through challenging moments.

The people who thrive here are in this work for the heart of it. They find meaning in the small, everyday moments that help a child feel understood, build confidence, and connect with others. They are patient, dependable, curious, receptive to feedback, and committed to continually learning and growing. They share our values, approach children with compassion and respect, and understand that meaningful progress looks different for every child.

We’re also looking for someone who is flexible, collaborative, and willing to step in wherever they’re needed to support our kids. Our work spans schools, camps, and our centers, so no two days are necessarily the same... and that's the fun of it! The right person is comfortable working independently while staying connected to the broader team, adapting to changing needs, and doing what’s needed to help our children have successful, meaningful experiences.
