School Bus Aide - Special Needs Bus

POSITION TITLE:Special Education Bus Para-Professional QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent (Beginning 08/2002 a minimum of two years of study at an institution of higher education; or pass Work-Keys test). PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to sit in a school bus, at a desk, conference table, or in meetingrooms of various configurations for varying amounts of time. Must be able to seeand read instructional materials, rules and policies, and other printed matter. Facility to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal conversations. Facility to write legibly so that others may read and understand. Facility to walk on uneven terrain, school grounds, and school buses. Physical ability to lift and carry from 40-60 pounds, as well as bend, stoop, walk, reach overhead. Physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, and turn. REPORTS TO: Bus Driver/Transportation Supervisor/Special Education Teacher/Director ofStudent Services JOB GOAL: To work closely with students with disabilities on a regular basis in an effort to ensure safe and comfortable transportation to and from school and during extra curricular experiences. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Provide direct/indirect supervision of special education students transported by school bus. 2. Maintain close communication with the bus driver and special education teachers. 3. Develop a cooperative working relationship with other school personnel serving students transported on the school bus. 4. Assist in communicating student needs to appropriate school and transportation personnel. 5. Perform related clerical tasks. 6. Performs related duties as required by job-specific position. 7. Collaborate with bus driver in students seating assignments. 8. Assist bus driver and staff with safe loading and unloading of students. 9. Exhibit at all times appropriate role modeling through language, dress, hygiene and expressing appropriate attitudes toward sex, criminal behavior, and the use of drugs. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Terms of employment shall be consistent with the law relating to employment by a school system in the State of Alabama for a nine-month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’sPolicy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
