Responsibilities

• Safely operate school buses and transit vehicles, following all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations.
• Ensure the safety of passengers by practicing defensive driving techniques and emergency response procedures for transportation incidents.
• Assist students with boarding, disembarking, and wheelchair assistance, ensuring accessibility for all passengers.
• Maintain discipline and manage student behavior to promote a respectful and secure environment onboard.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections of the vehicle, checking brakes, lights, signals, and other critical systems to guarantee operational safety.
• Respond quickly to traffic changes, detours, or emergencies with appropriate action and communication.
• Complete accurate logs of trips, passenger counts, and any incidents or maintenance needs throughout your shift.

Skills

• Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or commercial driving with knowledge of vehicle codes and heavy lifting techniques.
• Strong understanding of traffic laws, transportation safety regulations, and emergency response procedures related to transit operations.
• Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for engaging diverse student populations.
• Ability to provide exceptional customer service by fostering positive interactions with students, parents, and staff.
• Knowledge of student discipline policies and behavior management strategies to ensure passenger safety.
• Familiarity with wheelchair assistance protocols and paratransit services to support passengers with mobility needs.
• Valid driver’s license with appropriate endorsements; experience working with children or senior care is advantageous.
• Ability to respond swiftly to traffic changes or unexpected situations with calmness and professionalism.
• CPR certification and first aid training are preferred to handle emergency situations effectively.

Pay: From $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 21.25 per week
