What they need
St John’s Priory School is looking for a reliable, conscientious and hardworking School Cleaner to join our friendly and dedicated site team.
The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring that our school remains clean, safe, hygienic and welcoming for our pupils, staff and visitors.
You will work closely with the Site Manager, supporting them in maintaining consistently high standards of cleanliness throughout the school.
The Role
This is a part-time, term-time-only position working Monday to Friday, 4.00pm–6.00pm.
The role will involve the routine cleaning and upkeep of the school, including classrooms, communal areas, toilets, offices and other designated areas.
There may also be opportunities to work additional hours during school holidays to undertake deeper cleaning and additional cleaning tasks.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and understands that a clean school environment is an important part of providing a safe and positive environment for children and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out daily cleaning duties across the school to a consistently high standard.
- Clean classrooms, offices, communal areas, corridors and other designated areas.
- Clean and sanitise toilets and washroom facilities.
- Vacuum, sweep and mop floors as required.
- Dust, wipe and clean surfaces, furniture and fixtures.
- Empty bins and dispose of waste appropriately.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene throughout the school.
- Replenish cleaning and hygiene supplies when required.
- Use cleaning products and equipment safely and appropriately.
- Follow COSHH, health and safety and school cleaning procedures.
- Report any maintenance issues, damage, hazards or concerns to the Site Manager.
- Work closely with the Site Manager to identify areas requiring additional attention and ensure cleaning standards are maintained.
- Assist with additional and deep-cleaning duties during school holidays when required.
- Ensure cleaning equipment and products are stored safely and securely.
- Maintain confidentiality and behave professionally at all times.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Reliable, punctual and trustworthy.
- Hardworking and conscientious.
- Proud of the standard of their work and has excellent attention to detail.
- Able to work independently and manage their time effectively.
- Able to follow instructions and established cleaning procedures.
- Flexible and willing to support the wider site team when required.
- Friendly, professional and approachable.
- Able to work well as part of a team.
- Committed to maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment.
- Previous cleaning experience is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided for the right candidate.
Experience of working within a school, nursery, childcare or other similar environment would be advantageous.
Working with the Site Manager
The successful candidate will work closely alongside the Site Manager and will be expected to communicate effectively regarding cleaning requirements, supplies, maintenance issues and any areas requiring additional attention.
We are looking for someone who takes ownership and pride in maintaining the school, rather than simply completing individual cleaning tasks.
Additional Holiday Cleaning
Although the role is term-time only, there may be opportunities to work additional paid hours during school holidays.
These hours may include:
- Deep cleaning classrooms and communal areas.
- Detailed cleaning of floors and surfaces.
- Cleaning areas that are difficult to access during term time.
- Preparing the school for the start of a new term.
- Supporting the Site Manager with additional cleaning requirements.
Additional holiday hours will be agreed in advance and are subject to the school's requirements and the individual's availability.
Safeguarding
St John’s Priory School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
The successful applicant will be required to complete the school's safer recruitment and pre-employment checking process. This will include appropriate identity, employment/reference and DBS checks, including any additional checks required for the role.
The appointment will be subject to satisfactory completion of all required pre-employment checks.
What We Offer
- A friendly and supportive working environment.
- A welcoming and committed school team.
- Full induction and appropriate training.
- Clear support from the Site Manager.
- Term-time working hours.
- Opportunity for additional paid holiday cleaning hours.
- The opportunity to play an important role in maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment.
