School Custodian

Job Overview
Join our friendly and supportive team at a private elementary school in Passaic! We are seeking a reliable and dedicated full-time Custodian/Janitor to assist with maintaining a clean and safe environment for our students and staff. This role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to perform a variety of cleaning tasks effectively.

Duties

• Perform general custodial duties including cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining restrooms, break rooms, and common areas.
• Conduct floor care activities such as sweeping and mopping.
• Setup and breakdown of classrooms and event spaces.
• Grounds cleanup and maintenance.
• Carry out industrial cleaning tasks in compliance with safety standards and regulations.
• Assist with projects as needed to maintain the aesthetic appeal of the facilities.
• Support facilities maintenance by reporting any repairs or maintenance needs promptly and other related duties as assigned.
• Ensure all cleaning supplies and equipment are maintained in good working condition.
• Act as a porter by transporting materials or supplies as required throughout the facility.
• Maintain an organized storage area for cleaning supplies and equipment.

Qualifications

• Background check required
• Fluency in both written and spoken English
• Comfortable using hand tools and power tools (preferred); small engine repair a BONUS (but not required)
• Previous experience in custodial or commercial cleaning roles is preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with floor care techniques including use of auto scrubber is advantageous.
• Knowledge of industrial cleaning practices is a plus.
• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• A proactive approach to identifying areas needing maintenance or improvement.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
