School Librarian

About the role

Botany Downs School is looking for a vibrant, organized, and creative Support Staff Librarian (Grade B) to lead our library environment, inspire young readers, and support our teaching staff. In this varied, hands-on role, you will manage all aspects of the school library.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations using the Accessit Library Management System, including cataloging new acquisitions, processing issues/returns, and maintaining accurate collection data.
• Select and purchase new books, manage protective book covering/repairs, and keep the library, resources and books in top condition.
• Curate specialised teacher resource sets and coordinate orders through the National Library to support classroom topics.
• Create dynamic, topic-based book displays to ignite student interest in reading.
• Accession new resources and manage our teaching resources.
• Plan and deliver library lessons, read aloud to classes across year levels, and host engaging reading sessions during lunchtime library hours.
• Coordinate Book Week in collaboration with the school team, prepare students for the Literacy Quiz, host the annual Scholastic Book Fair, and assist with speech competition judging.
• Design engaging library newsletters and promotional materials using Canva.
• Update the Botany Downs School website library pages.
• Maintain a welcoming, orderly library space and assist students and staff daily.

About you

• Experience using Accessit for cataloging and circulation.
• Background in library administration, support staff roles, or primary school settings.
• Strong confidence reading to primary school classes and delivering engaging group lessons.
• Experience running book fairs, literacy quizzes, or school-wide reading events.
• Proficiency with Canva (or similar design tools) for creating newsletters and promotional displays.
• Sound knowledge of primary-level children's literature and book processing/repair.
• Excellent organizational skills, digital literacy, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team.
