Duties

• Safely operate school vans and transit vehicles in accordance with all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations.
• Transport students to designated locations such as schools, homes, extracurricular activities, and special events while ensuring punctuality.
• Assist students with disabilities or mobility challenges by providing wheelchair assistance and supporting their safe boarding and disembarking.
• Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and emergency stop procedures when necessary.
• Maintain clear communication with school staff, parents, and students to coordinate schedules and address any concerns promptly.
• Conduct vehicle inspections before each shift to ensure all safety features are functional; report any maintenance issues immediately.
• Manage student behavior through positive discipline techniques and behavior management strategies to promote a respectful environment onboard.
• Assist with loading heavy items or equipment when required, adhering to proper lifting techniques for safety.
• Respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected delays by adjusting routes efficiently while keeping students safe and comfortable.
• Keep accurate records of trips, attendance, safety checks, and incident reports as part of daily documentation.

Experience

• Proven experience driving buses or vans in a commercial or school transportation setting.
• Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations relevant to school bus or van operation.
• Experience working with children or in educational environments is highly preferred.
• Certification in first aid and CPR is required; additional training in emergency response procedures for transportation is advantageous.
• Familiarity with wheelchair assistance techniques and paratransit services is desirable.
• Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for engaging diverse student populations.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and handle behavior management effectively.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; commercial driving license or school bus endorsement preferred depending on the vehicle type.
