Science Lab Teacher – Job Description

Job Title: Science Lab Teacher / Laboratory Assistant
Reports To: Principal / Academic Coordinator / Science HOD

Job Summary

We are looking for a qualified, responsible, and safety-conscious Science Lab Teacher to manage the school science laboratory and support students and teachers during practical sessions. The candidate will ensure proper preparation of experiments, safe handling of laboratory equipment and materials, and effective maintenance of laboratory resources.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist teachers and students with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology practicals.
• Prepare laboratory apparatus, equipment, specimens, chemicals, and materials for experiments.
• Demonstrate the correct use of laboratory equipment and experimental procedures.
• Ensure strict compliance with laboratory safety rules and procedures.
• Maintain laboratory stock, equipment registers, issue records, and inventory.
• Check laboratory equipment regularly and report damaged or faulty items.
• Ensure proper labeling and safe storage of chemicals, glassware, specimens, and other materials.
• Supervise students during practical activities and ensure safe working practices.
• Assist Science Teachers in preparing experiments, demonstrations, projects, and practical examinations.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper organization of the laboratory.
• Ensure appropriate handling and disposal of laboratory waste.
• Assist during practical examinations, science exhibitions, projects, and academic activities.
• Prepare reports regarding laboratory requirements, equipment, and consumables.
• Inform the Science HOD/Principal about safety concerns, shortages, or maintenance requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Science / Physics / Chemistry / Biology or a relevant discipline.
• B.Ed. / relevant laboratory qualification will be an advantage.
• Good knowledge of school-level science practicals and laboratory procedures.
• Previous experience in a school laboratory or educational institution is preferred.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety and equipment handling.
