What they need
The Opportunity
We are a venture-backed research lab operating in stealth. We are selecting the inaugural cohort of the Infinity Fellowship — postdoctoral research fellows across computational biology, RNA biology, neuroscience, and adjacent fields. Every Fellow leaves with a lead-author publication; the strongest receive permanent research positions. We are inviting a small number of internationally recognized genomics leaders to serve on the Scientific Selection Committee that chooses them.
Why Serve
- A first look at the strongest emerging scientists in genomics worldwide — before anyone else sees them
- The chance to set the scientific standards of a new research institution at its most formative moment
- Early access, under NDA, to a new class of discovery systems and the research directions they open
- A small committee of peers: your counterparts on other tracks are leaders in RNA biology, neuroscience, and enzymology
The Work
Candidate evaluation (core)
- Deep review of genomics candidates across statistical genetics, functional genomics, single-cell and spatial methods, regulatory genomics, variant interpretation, and genome engineering
Area judgment (secondary)
- Short memos on which genomics subfields offer real vacancies — problems that are important, falsifiable, tractable within a 12-month fellowship, and not already crowded
Calibration
- Norming scores with committee members on other tracks so rankings are comparable across disciplines
- Clear recommendations on borderline cases — a verdict, not a hedge
Optional extension
- Milestone review for admitted genomics Fellows: experimental design review, mid-fellowship checkpoints, and pre-submission review of lead-author manuscripts
Who We Invite
Markers we look for (no single one required):
- Internationally recognized contributions to genomics — HHMI Investigator, EMBO or National Academy membership, or equivalent standing
- Editorial leadership at leading journals, or service on selection panels such as HHMI, EMBO, Wellcome, or NIH study sections
- Genuine breadth: able to judge both wet-lab and computational work, and fluent in current ML-for-genomics (variant effect prediction, sequence-to-function models, perturbation screens, foundation models)
- A reputation for decisive, rigorous judgment — able to tell a real discovery bet from an incremental extension dressed up as one
Engagement
- Format: Bounded and predictable — roughly 15-20 hours per week during selection windows, initial term of 8–12 weeks, with an option to extend into Fellow oversight
- Recognition: Honorarium of [$X per selection cycle], with potential advisory equity in future.
- Location: Fully remote; occasional Bay Area (CA) sessions optional
- Confidentiality: A mutual NDA precedes the introductory call; the lab's identity and full platform scope are shared there
- Reports to: CEO
