What they need
Intelligent Solutions to Complex Challenges
Looking for a software development role where you can work at the intersection of science, engineering and cutting-edge technology? We would like to hear from you.
The Role
We are looking for a Scientific Software Developer who can bridge the gap between science and software, translating complex numerical models and scientific concepts into robust, professional-grade applications.
You will develop software supporting advanced radiation detection, imaging and sensing technologies, taking scientific concepts and prototype algorithms and turning them into reliable, maintainable and production-ready systems.
Working alongside physicists, hardware engineers and other software developers, you'll be close to both the science and the technology – with the opportunity to see your software become part of real-world systems used in demanding applications.
We're looking for strong software engineering skills and the ability to understand and work with complex scientific concepts.
We're a small, ambitious technology company, which means you'll have real responsibility, direct access to technical specialists and decision makers, and the opportunity to see the impact of your work.
Responsibilities
- Algorithm Development: Design, optimise and implement numerical models and algorithms that process data from radiation detectors and imaging devices.
- Professional Software Engineering: Develop clean, maintainable and reliable software, transforming scientific prototypes into production-ready applications.
- Software Quality: Apply modern development practices including version control, automated testing and CI/CD to support robust and reliable software.
- Cross-Functional Development: Work alongside physicists, hardware engineers and front-end developers to integrate algorithms into wider system architectures.
- Problem Solving: Investigate technical challenges and help develop practical software solutions for complex scientific and engineering problems
About You
We're looking for someone who combines strong software engineering skills with genuine scientific and technical curiosity. You don't need to be a physicist, but you should enjoy understanding how things work and be comfortable turning complex ideas into well-engineered software.
Requirements:
- 3+ years' postgraduate experience in commercial or research-based software development or software engineering.
- A degree in Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering or another relevant technical discipline.
- Strong software engineering skills with experience developing maintainable, tested and well-structured software, rather than simply scripts or prototypes.
- The ability to understand scientific concepts, numerical models and algorithms and translate them into robust software.
- Experience with modern software development practices, including version control, automated testing and CI/CD.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with scientists, engineers and other software developers.
Desirable:
- Experience with Python and/or C++, or similar languages used in scientific computing.
- Experience with imaging, image processing or computer vision.
- Experience working with scientific, engineering or sensor data.
- Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies.
