主な職務

• 材料インフォマティクスのソリューションを一気通貫で設計する。材料科学、化学、機械学習の深い知識を活かし、クライアントの研究開発課題を、データ・モデル・ユーザー向けアプリケーションにまたがるアーキテクチャへと落とし込みます。
• エージェント・ファーストで働く。AI コーディングアシスタントや自律型コーディングエージェントを、データ探索、モデルのプロトタイピング、ソフトウェア構築、テスト作成、ドキュメント作成の標準手段として活用します。
• テクニカルリードとして AI エージェントを指揮する。材料・化学の課題を適切な粒度のタスクに分解し、ドメイン知識と物理的制約をエージェントに与え、明確な仕様を書き、正確で説明可能な結果へと反復的に導きます。
• 複雑な研究開発および製品開発の課題を、クライアントの研究者や事業責任者と密に連携しながら解決します。
• データ駆動モデル、AI ベースの意思決定支援ツール、自動解析パイプラインを構築し、GUI、2D・3D グラフィックス、クラウドコンピューティングを含む Web ベースのソフトウェアソリューションとして統合します。
• 価値があると判断される箇所に、AI およびエージェント機能をクライアントソリューションへ組み込みます。対象には LLM による文献・データ抽出、ツール/関数呼び出し、材料データに対する検索、評価ハーネスが含まれ、いずれも他のコンポーネントと同等の厳密さで扱います。
• AI や生成的手法が適する場面と適さない場面を見極めます。材料研究開発に特有の小規模・疎・ノイズの多いデータを踏まえ、速度と信頼性・再現性のバランスを取ります。
• リリース計画、アーキテクチャレビュー、コードレビュー、スプリント計画、レトロスペクティブ、デイリースタンドアップといった共同開発の実践に参加し、クライアントと直接やり取りしてソリューションを定義・提示・改善します。
• クライアントのデータと知的財産を責任を持って取り扱い、AI ツールは承認された安全な構成でのみ使用します。
• 技術的な内容を、技術者・非技術者のいずれに対しても日本語と英語で明確に伝えます。

The Opportunity

We are hiring a Materials Data Scientist / Scientific Software Developer to join our client-facing solution delivery team. You will pair deep materials and chemistry expertise with agentic AI coding tools to help industrial materials and chemical researchers make better, faster R&D decisions and bring innovative products to market sooner. The work runs from data exploration through model development to production software, on project teams that combine Enthought’s proprietary technology with the open-source scientific Python ecosystem. Enthought is a lean, automation-first company where every role works like an engineer, directing AI tools to automate routine work and focusing human judgment where it matters most. This is a client-facing role serving Japan’s leading enterprises, so native-level Japanese fluency is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end materials informatics solutions, applying deep knowledge of materials science, chemistry, and machine learning to translate client R&D problems into architectures spanning data, models, and user-facing applications.
• Work agent-first, using AI coding assistants and autonomous coding agents as your default way to explore data, prototype models, build software, write tests, and produce documentation.
• Direct AI agents like a technical lead. Decompose materials and chemistry problems into well-scoped tasks, give agents the domain context and physical constraints they need, write clear specifications, and iterate toward correct, defensible results.
• Solve complex research and product development problems in close collaboration with client researchers and business leaders.
• Build data-driven models, AI-based decision-support tools, and automated analysis pipelines, and assemble them into web-based software solutions involving GUIs, 2D and 3D graphics, and cloud computing.
• Design AI-enabled and agentic capabilities into client solutions where they add value: LLM-powered literature and data extraction, tool and function calling, retrieval over materials data, and evaluation harnesses. These are held to the same rigor as any other component.
• Apply judgment about where AI and generative approaches fit and where they do not, especially given the small, sparse, and noisy datasets typical of materials R&D, balancing speed against reliability and reproducibility.
• Take part in collaborative development practices including release planning, architecture reviews, code review, sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily standups, and interface directly with clients to define, demonstrate, and refine solutions.
• Handle client data and intellectual property responsibly, using AI tools only in approved, secure configurations.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in Japanese and English.
