Interested in a career that matters? Are you passionate about fermentation technology and excited by the opportunity to transform scientific discoveries into innovative solutions? As a Scientist in Product and Process Development, you will help shape the future of food cultures through fermentation and downstream process innovation, working across laboratory, pilot and manufacturing environments.

You will join the Product Formats & Technology department within R&D Product and Process Development in Hørsholm, Denmark. We are a scientist-driven team working at the forefront of fermentation and drying technologies. Our collaborative and diverse team thrives on solving complex challenges together while contributing to the development of innovative food culture solutions.

The Role & Your Impact In this innovation-focused role, you will contribute to strategic and line projects aimed at developing and optimizing food culture production processes. You will work closely with stakeholders across the organization to design experiments, evaluate technologies, and support the development of robust and scalable manufacturing processes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and optimizing fermentation and downstream processes for food culture production, including process design, formulations, process flows, and operational parameters.
  • Planning, executing, and evaluating fermentation and downstream trials across laboratory, pilot, and production scales, while assessing process performance and contributing to final product evaluations.
  • Participating in strategic and line projects aligned with departmental priorities and developing tailored solutions in close collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Documenting scientific knowledge through reports, publications, and patent contributions, and sharing insights through presentations and scientific conferences.
  • Supervising Bachelor and Master thesis students while supporting knowledge sharing and scientific development within the organization.

What You'll Need To Be Successful To succeed in this role, we imagine that you bring:

  • An MSc with relevant industry experience or a PhD in Fermentation Technology, Bioprocess Technology, Biochemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience in fermentation and downstream process development.
  • Experience working with experimental design and scientific problem solving.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain scientific concepts clearly to different audiences.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Good English skills, both written and spoken.

Additional Skills & Interests We Value While not required, experience with Design of Experiments (DoE), data science applications for bioprocess development, model-based process development, or the use of AI-based tools to support process development and decision-making would be advantageous. We also value experience communicating scientific findings through publications, patents, conference presentations, or posters.

What We Offer At Novonesis, you will become part of a highly skilled scientific environment where collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning are valued. You will have the opportunity to work across laboratory, pilot, and industrial environments while contributing to technologies that support the development of food cultures and probiotics. As part of our team, you will enjoy a collaborative and engaging work environment where knowledge sharing and scientific excellence are encouraged. We offer opportunities for professional growth and continuous development while providing exposure to cutting-edge fermentation and drying technologies. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to innovation through new technologies, scientific publications, intellectual property development, and the implementation of novel process solutions.
