SCMS Engineer

Job Purpose:

To handle SCMS works at TAQA transmission substations, including installation, configuration, testing, commissioning and integration with protection, telecommunication and other substation systems.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Supervise and follow up SCMS installation, configuration and commissioning works at site.
2. Follow up testing of SCMS equipment, including servers, workstations, bay control units, gateways and related equipment, as applicable.
3. Check approved drawings, system architecture, signal lists and communication interfaces.
4. Follow up point-to-point checks for indications, alarms, measurements, control commands and interlocking signals.
5. Coordinate SCMS integration with protection relays, telecommunication systems, substation equipment and the remote control centre.
6. Coordinate with the SCMS OEM to resolve configuration, communication and integration issues.
7. Follow up FAT, SAT and site testing activities, as applicable to the project.
8. Coordinate with TAQA, the consultant, Protection and Telecommunication teams to complete all required interfaces and testing.
9. Ensure completion of testing reports, system documents, backups, as-built drawings and handover documents.
10. Follow up technical comments and punch-list items until closure and report any delays to the Project Manager.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Control Systems or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in substation automation and SCMS systems.
• Practical experience in SCMS configuration, testing, commissioning and integration.
• Knowledge of IEC 61850 and substation communication interfaces is preferred.
• Previous experience in HV/EHV substations and UAE utility projects is preferred.
• Knowledge of TAQA requirements and willingness to complete the required Competent Engineer approval process.
