Location: Barking
Salary: £35,000–£38,000 per annum
Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00am–5:00pm + every other Saturday, 7:00am–1:00pm

We are looking for a Scrap Metal Load Checker to join our busy team in Barking.

The main focus of this role is to check incoming scrap metal loads and ensure all material meets the required grade and specification. You will be responsible for identifying non-conforming materials, contamination and incorrect grades, helping to ensure customers are supplying material in line with our requirements.

You will also be responsible for lining up incoming vans and vehicles into the correct unloading positions, helping to keep the yard running safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Check incoming scrap metal loads for quality, grade and contamination.
• Identify and report non-conforming or incorrect materials.
• Ensure customer loads meet agreed specifications.
• Direct and line up incoming vehicles into the correct unloading positions.
• Communicate with drivers, customers and yard staff.
• Take photographs/videos of loads where required.
• Monitor unloading and raise any concerns regarding the material.
• Maintain a safe and efficient flow of vehicles through the yard.
• Follow all site health and safety procedures.

About You

We are looking for someone who is reliable, switched-on and has excellent attention to detail.

Previous experience in the scrap metal, recycling or waste industry essential, particularly knowledge of scrap grades and contamination.

You must be comfortable working outdoors in a busy yard, communicating with drivers and customers, and confidently identifying when material does not meet the required specification.

This is a hands-on role and would suit someone who takes pride in their work, is safety-conscious and isn't afraid to speak up when something isn't right.

Pay: £35,000.00-£38,000.00 per year

Work Location: In person
