Senior Software Engineer – Data

At Licious, we are building a scalable and reliable data platform that powers critical business decisions, operational intelligence, and next-generation data products.

As a Senior Software Engineer – Data, you will own the design, development, and optimization of large-scale distributed data systems. You will work across streaming, batch processing, data infrastructure, and platform engineering while driving technical decisions and building highly reliable systems at scale.

What You'll Be Doing

• Data Platforms: Design, build, and scale data pipelines and distributed systems supporting real-time and batch workloads.

• Streaming & Processing: Build and optimize high-throughput streaming and batch processing systems using technologies such as Kafka and Spark.

• System Design: Drive architecture and design decisions for scalable, fault-tolerant, and highly available data systems.

• Platform Engineering: Improve platform reliability, observability, developer experience, and operational efficiency.

• Performance & Cost: Identify bottlenecks and drive improvements in processing performance, resource utilization, and infrastructure costs.

• Production Ownership: Own production systems, troubleshoot complex issues, lead root-cause analysis, and drive long-term reliability improvements.

• Technical Leadership: Lead technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and collaborate with software, platform, product, and business teams.

What You'll Bring

• 5–8 years of experience in Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Backend Engineering, Platform Engineering, or related roles.

• Proven experience building and operating distributed systems and large-scale data platforms.

Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, streaming architectures, and batch processing.

• Strong proficiency in Python; experience with Golang, Java, or Rust is a plus.

• Strong SQL skills and experience working with large-scale datasets.

• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and system design.

• Experience with Spark/job optimization, data modeling, and data pipeline design.

• Hands-on experience deploying and operating workloads in cloud-native environments.

• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms such as AWS/GCP/Azure is a plus.

Ownership & Impact

• Strong ability to design scalable and reliable systems and make informed trade-offs across performance, reliability, scalability, and cost.

• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills.

• Demonstrated ownership of complex technical initiatives and measurable engineering outcomes.

• Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions.

Good to Have

• Experience with AI platforms, RAG systems, LLM applications, or AI infrastructure.

• Experience with real-time analytics, event-driven architectures, or modern data lake/lakehouse platforms.

• Experience with technologies such as Flink, Trino/Presto, Airflow, or dbt

Qualification

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

• 5–8 years of relevant industry experience in Software, Data, Backend, or Platform Engineering.
