Search Engineer – Solr / OpenSearch

W-2 ONLY - CONTRACT- 🍎

Location: Austin, TX

Work Schedule: Hybrid – onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Duration: 12+ months

We are looking for an experienced Search Engineer with strong hands-on experience supporting and administering Solr and/or OpenSearch in production environments . This role combines search platform engineering, backend development, cloud infrastructure, and production troubleshooting.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing distributed search clusters, optimizing indexing and query performance, and working with Java and Python applications in AWS and multi-cloud environments.

Requirements:

• 4+ years of hands-on experience administering Solr and/or OpenSearch in production
• Strong proficiency in Java and Python , including the ability to read, debug, and modify existing application code
• Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts including sharding, replication, consistency, and cluster topology
• Hands-on experience with AWS , including EC2, IAM, VPC, S3, and CloudWatch
• Experience managing clusters on at least one additional cloud platform, such as GCP
• Experience with REST APIs, Query DSL, indexing, and index lifecycle management (ILM/ISM)
• Experience with CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Strong Linux troubleshooting and production support skills
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and CloudWatch
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance-tuning skills
• Experience with Git-based version control and code-review workflows
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude or GitHub Copilot
