Searcher

We are looking for a reliable, experienced and security-conscious Searcher to join our operational team in Cape Town.

The successful candidate will be required to work closely with assigned search dogs and conduct searches in and around vessels and port facilities. This position requires individuals who are disciplined, physically capable, dependable and able to respond at short notice.

*Preferred Location

Candidates residing in or near the following areas will be given preference:

Brackenfell; Delft South; Delft North; Bellville; Kuils River; Parow; Goodwood; Maitland; Cape Town CBD; Other suburbs within reasonable travelling distance of the Port of Cape Town

* Minimum Requirements

✔ PSiRA registered

✔ Previous searching/searcher experience

✔ Experience working with search dogs will be advantageous

✔ No criminal record

✔ No pending criminal cases

✔ Must be of sober habits

✔ Reliable, responsible and trustworthy

✔ Able to work effectively as part of a team

✔ Must be comfortable working closely with assigned search dogs

✔ Physically capable of carrying out searching duties for extended periods

✔ Must be willing and capable of working highly extended hours when operational requirements dictate

✔ Must be able to maintain a 24/7 on-call availability status and respond to short-notice vessel search requests

✔ Valid driver's licence – advantageous but not essential

* Key Responsibilities

• Conduct searches of vessels and designated areas in accordance with operational
• procedures
• Work closely and effectively with assigned search dogs
• Follow instructions from supervisors and vessel/port authorities
• Maintain professional conduct and strict confidentiality
• Remain alert and attentive during searches
• Complete required search documentation and reports
• Respond to vessel search requests at short notice
• Be available for operational call-outs, including weekends, public holidays and after-
• hours
• Maintain the required standards of safety, discipline and professionalism

**IMPORTANT**

This is not a conventional 9-to-5 position.

The successful candidate must understand that vessel movements and port operations can change at short notice. Candidates must therefore be flexible with working hours and willing to remain on-call 24/7, including the possibility of extended shifts and short-notice call-outs.
