Seasonal Parks Landscaper

LOCATION:

Lafayette Parks and Recreation; Maintenance Division

HOURS:

M-F 7:00am - 3:00pm Full-time; Days, evenings, weekends and some holidays may be required.

SALARY:

$12.75-$13.75 per hour

Description
Incumbent serves as Seasonal Landscape for the Parks and Recreation Department. Incumbent participates in all aspects of

landscape maintenance and installation for all parks and properties of City of Lafayette. Perform landscape maintenance of

assigned parks and grounds such as bed edging, mulching, pruning, plant removal, installation, fertilization, insect/fungus

treatments, mowing, trimming, removing leaves, trees and limbs, and general landscaping. Perform additional landscaping

duties such as grading slopes, seeding, and removing tree stumps. Perform essential landscape maintenance such as upkeep

of planters and planting beds, trim, prune, or deadhead flowers and clean flower beds, plant seeds, bulbs, shrubs, perennials,

grasses, ground covers, or trees and apply mulch using appropriate tools.

Operate various hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, chainsaws, axes, gas shears, or pruners. Incumbent may also

operate equipment such as skid steer loader, backhoe, forklift, dump truck, and snowplow to address the general

maintenance and safety of parks and grounds. Keep Department equipment, tools, and vehicles clean, and report repairs.

Potentially assist in maintaining buildings and other structures such as shelters, bridges, and buildings including

painting/patching walls and fences.

REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED preferred. Education or experience, or both, in landscape maintenance preferred. Must be at

least 16 years old.

Certification or ability to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid preferred.

Knowledge of and/or experience in landscaping, horticulture, natural resources, grounds maintenance, and/or plant

materials is preferred.

Incumbent should have strong communication skills and be responsible, self-motivated, and dependable. Knowledge of

customer service and public relations skills is desirable. Incumbent must be able to competently serve the public with

diplomacy and respect including occasional encounters with irate/hostile persons.

Ability to follow and ensure compliance with all employer/department personnel policies and work rules including but not

limited to attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.

Ability to operate all equipment in the Department including but not limited to, various excavation tools, hand tools, and

other motorized equipment is desirable.

A positive professional appearance, demeanor, and attitude is required, and applicant must work harmoniously with all

contacts in an enthusiastic and cooperative manner.
