We’ve been instructed by a global specialty insurer with an established transactional risk underwriting practice in their search for a Secondaries Underwriter. With secondaries deal volume at record levels and representations and warranties insurance increasingly central to how GP-led and LP-led deals get done, they are looking to add a funds-focused underwriter to their New York team.

This is a rare route for a funds lawyer to move into the market and put their technical experience to work commercially, without leaving that grounding behind. No prior insurance experience is needed; the underwriting side of the role will be trained, and you’ll join a team built largely from lawyers who have made the same move.

You will underwrite R&W and related risk on secondaries transactions, from single-asset and multi-asset GP-led continuation vehicles to LP-led portfolio sales and fund wind-up structures. That means reviewing transaction documents and diligence, assessing and pricing risk, leading underwriting calls, and negotiating policy terms and exclusions with brokers and fund counsel.

You’ll also act as the team’s technical resource on fund structures and secondaries mechanics, from knowledge-qualified warranty packages to clean-team arrangements on conflicted GP-led deals, and build your own profile across the broker, sponsor and fund counsel community.

We’re keen to speak with US-qualified funds lawyers from a leading law firm, with experience across secondaries transactions, continuation vehicles, fund formation or fund-level M&A, and a genuine interest in moving into a commercial, decision-making role. You’ll bring strong technical judgement, the confidence to hold your position with brokers and counsel, and the appetite to build a market profile of your own.
