Teaching Assistant / Cover Supervisor – Tonbridge & Surrounding Areas

Location: Tonbridge and surrounding areas
Pay: £105–£150 per day
Working pattern: Full-time and part-time opportunities
Contract: Temporary and longer-term positions available

Teach South Kent is looking for confident and enthusiastic education professionals for Teaching Assistant and Cover Supervisor opportunities in Tonbridge and the surrounding areas.

This role would suit someone who enjoys supporting students but is also comfortable taking responsibility for a classroom when required.

The opportunity

The position combines two important areas of school support.

When working as a Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teaching staff to help students access their learning, provide additional support where needed and contribute to a positive classroom environment.

You will also undertake Cover Supervisor duties, supervising classes when the regular teacher is unavailable. You will be expected to follow the lesson plans and instructions provided, manage the classroom effectively and ensure students complete the work set.

Applicants must be willing and able to carry out both Teaching Assistant and Cover Supervisor responsibilities.

The amount of time spent in each part of the role can vary depending on the requirements of the school.

What the role involves

Teaching Assistant duties may include:

  • Supporting students during lessons
  • Providing one-to-one or small-group assistance
  • Helping students stay engaged with their learning
  • Supporting students who may need additional encouragement or guidance
  • Working alongside teachers and other support staff
  • Helping maintain a positive and productive classroom environment
  • Supporting students' confidence, independence and progress

Cover Supervisor duties may include:

  • Supervising lessons in the absence of the class teacher
  • Providing students with the work and instructions supplied by teaching staff
  • Managing classroom routines and behaviour
  • Keeping students focused and on task
  • Dealing appropriately with day-to-day classroom situations
  • Reporting any relevant issues or concerns to school staff

Who we're looking for

This opportunity would suit someone who is adaptable, reliable and confident working with secondary-aged students.

You should be:

  • Comfortable supporting students in a classroom environment
  • Confident managing a group of students independently
  • Patient, approachable and professional
  • Able to establish positive relationships with young people
  • Consistent when managing behaviour
  • Flexible and willing to take on different responsibilities during the school day
  • Reliable and committed to providing a positive experience for students

Experience working in a school is advantageous, but we're also happy to hear from candidates with relevant transferable experience such as youth work, childcare, sports coaching, mentoring or other roles involving young people.
