What they need

The Protective Services Officer – 2 (PSO2) is an armed security professional primarily assigned to a designated security zone containing one or more controlled entry points. PSO2 maintains a continuous armed presence within the assigned zone and is responsible for access control, screening operations, deterrence, and prevention of unauthorized entry.

PSO2 personnel focus on monitoring controlled areas, detecting prohibited items, verifying credentials, and maintaining a visible and professional security presence. Their primary responsibility is to maintain an armed presence at, or in close proximity to, their assigned entrance to ensure consistent access control and screening. As a secondary function, PSO2 personnel may conduct limited roving within their assigned zone-based area. While they may respond to incidents when directed or when immediate action is required, they must return to their primary entrance post upon completing the response.

This position requires vigilance, procedural compliance, and the ability to maintain controlled access environments while upholding Forbes Five-Star service standards.

Essential Duties

  • Maintain a continuous armed presence within an assigned security zone containing one or more entry points.
  • Monitor and control access to designated areas to deter, detect, and intercept potential threats.
  • Conduct visual inspections of individuals and property entering controlled areas.
  • Enforce established screening and access control procedures in accordance with department policy.
  • Confiscate restricted items or initiate proper check-in procedures as required.
  • Provide medical assistance when required.
  • Respond to calls for service when directed or when immediate action within the assigned zone is required; return to assigned security zone upon resolution.
  • Provide limited support during executive protection operations when a PSO3 is unavailable, returning immediately to the assigned zone and not assuming PSO3‑level responsibilities, as directed by management.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed incident reports in accordance with departmental standards.
  • May perform the essential duties of PSO1 classification when operationally necessary.
  • Any other duties assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Four (4) years of experience obtained from any combination of law enforcement, military service, or relevant armed security. Candidates with law enforcement or military backgrounds are strongly preferred.
  • High school graduate or equivalent required; college graduate preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Nevada Carrying Concealed Weapon (CCW) permit or HR 218 certification (or ability to obtain within six months).
  • Nevada Gaming Registration.
  • Alcohol Awareness (AES) Card.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • CPR certification.
  • Valid Nevada Driver’s License.

Training & Compliance

  • Successful completion of firearms, defensive tactics, and use-of-force training.
  • Successful completion of pre-hire physical fitness and psychological evaluation.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.

Core Competencies

  • Ability to maintain vigilance and alertness within a designated security zone.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow established screening and access control procedures.
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to accurately recall, articulate, and document incident details in written and verbal formats.
  • Ability to communicate in English fluently and professionally; additional languages are helpful.
  • Working knowledge of basic computer programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, and incident reporting systems).
