This position is suited to a handler with a strong security background who is confident working within a controlled and security-sensitive environment. Due to the nature of the site, we need someone who shows a high level of professionalism, vigilance, discipline and attention to detail at all times.
The successful candidate will work with their dog to provide a visible, effective security presence, supporting the patrol and protection of the facility, monitoring the movement of personnel and vehicles, and helping maintain site security.
The role also involves regular communication with other security officers across the facility, so that information is shared promptly and a coordinated security presence is maintained.
Due to the security and vetting requirements of the site, applicants must hold a valid British passport and sole British nationality.
You will work closely with the facility management team, other security officers on site, Guarding Professionals’ management and our 24-hour control room to ensure that all security procedures, site instructions and agreed service levels are consistently maintained.
Key Responsibilities

- Using the dog effectively and responsibly as a deterrent and detection tool, in line with site procedures and relevant legislation.
- Maintaining control of the dog at all times, in all environments and situations.
- Supporting the control of pedestrian and vehicle access where required.
- Monitoring perimeter security, gates, doors, fencing and other physical security measures.
- Challenging any unauthorised or suspicious activity in a professional and appropriate manner.
- Conducting security checks and searches where required and authorised under site procedures.
- Maintaining communication with other security officers across the site during patrols and throughout the shift.
- Reporting patrol findings, suspicious activity, security concerns or changes in site conditions to the relevant security officers, control room and management team.
- Monitoring CCTV, alarms and other security systems where applicable.
- Completing scheduled check calls and maintaining communication with the Guarding Professionals control room.
- Responding appropriately to alarms, emergencies and security incidents in accordance with site procedures.
- Assisting with emergency procedures, evacuations and other incidents when required.
- Maintaining accurate patrol logs, incident reports, security records and dog-handling records.
- Ensuring the health, welfare, hygiene and fitness for duty of the dog at all times, in line with NASDU standards and animal welfare legislation.
- Maintaining strict confidentiality regarding the facility, its personnel, operations and security arrangements.
- Completing reasonable administrative or security-related duties as required by the client or Guarding Professionals management.

- Valid British passport and sole British nationality – Essential due to site security and vetting requirements.
- Valid NASDU Security Dog Handler certification – Essential.
- Valid SIA Security Guarding Licence – Essential.
- Proven professional experience as a security dog handler – Essential.
- Previous experience in a secure, controlled, high-security or sensitive facility is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of physical security and access-control procedures.
- Ability and willingness to conduct regular patrols throughout the shift.
- Confident in challenging unauthorised persons while remaining professional and courteous.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Professional appearance and conduct at all times.
- Good standard of written English and ability to complete accurate incident and patrol reports.
- Comfortable using computers and basic web-based applications.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently as well as part of a wider security team.
- Ability to follow detailed site instructions and security procedures.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an experienced, disciplined and highly security-conscious dog handler. You will understand that working within a secure facility requires a high level of awareness, confidentiality and personal responsibility, and that a well-trained dog and a responsible handler are central to the security of the site.
You will be confident conducting patrols, questioning individuals when necessary and enforcing site procedures consistently while maintaining a professional approach.
