What they need
About the Client
My is a specialist cyber security business working with organisations to improve their security capability, visibility and resilience.
They are looking for a Security Engineer to join their Auckland team in a hands-on role focused on detection engineering, security automation and improving how security tooling works together..
About the role
This role sits between cyber security and software engineering.
You will be responsible for improving how suspicious and malicious activity is identified, alerted on and, where possible, contained.
A big part of the role will also be automating processes between security tools, improving data flow and reducing repetitive manual work for security analysts.
This is not a traditional SOC Analyst role. It will suit someone who enjoys scripting, building, integrating and solving security problems through automation
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain security automation tooling and integrations
- Build scripts and tools to improve security visibility and operational efficiency
- Create and maintain detection logic and threat detection capabilities
- Automate security workflows using APIs, playbooks and security tooling
- Improve data flow and integrations between security platforms
- Support SIEM, SOAR, EDR/XDR and network detection capabilities
- Embed security best practices into development environments
- Contribute to security architecture and engineering improvements
- Work closely with developers and technical teams
What We’re Looking For
You will ideally have a background across Security Engineering, Detection Engineering, DevSecOps, AppSec or software engineering with a strong security focus.
Programming & Automation
- Python, PowerShell, Ruby, C or similar
- Strong scripting and development practices
- Experience working with APIs and integrations
- Understanding of databases
Security & Detection
- Detection engineering experience
- Creating and tuning threat detection logic
- KQL / Kusto Query Language
- YARA-L
- SQL or similar query languages
- Understanding of MITRE ATT&CK
Other Useful Experience
- SIEM and SOAR technologies
- EDR / XDR
- Security workflow automation
- CI/CD pipelines
- Cloud-native environments
- DevSecOps
- Application Security / AppSec
About you
You are someone who enjoys understanding how things work and then finding a better way to build or automate them.
You will be:
- Hands-on and technically curious
- Comfortable working closely with developers and engineers
- Strong at problem solving
- Able to explain technical security concepts clearly
- Someone who naturally looks for opportunities to automate repetitive work
- Comfortable working across multiple security technologies
What’s On Offer
- Permanent position, full-time
- Hybrid working
- Parnell, Auckland
- Hands-on technical security engineering role
- Exposure across detection, automation, SIEM/SOAR and modern security tooling
- Opportunity to build and improve security capability rather than simply monitor alerts
If you’re a Security Engineer who enjoys coding, automation and building better ways to detect threats, we’d love to hear from you. We revise applications as they come so hurry and apply today with your updated CV and Cover Letter.
