What they need
Andor Group is a Southampton-based security specialist, working with some of the UK’s leading contractors and housebuilders across London and the South Coast. We are looking for an experienced and professional Security Officer to join our team at a construction site in Southampton.
Why Andor
We are a technology-driven company, and it shows in how our officers work. Our bespoke in-house CRM, Hitdesk, simplifies your day-to-day tasks, cuts out paperwork and creates a clear audit trail that keeps you and us accountable. We invest in our people, train them to a high standard and give them modern tools to do the job properly.
We are ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified, and we hold Safe Contractor and Constructionline accreditations. Our management team lives and breathes construction and security, so you will be supported by people who understand life on site.
The Role
This position suits someone with a strong security background who is confident in a busy, changing site environment. We are looking for a person who shows professionalism, vigilance, reliability and attention to detail at all times.
The successful candidate will control access to the site, monitor the movement of personnel and vehicles, carry out security patrols, protect site property and equipment, and act as a professional first point of contact for contractors, visitors and deliveries.
A minimum of three years’ professional security experience is required. We value proven experience and the right attitude.
How We Work
- Patrols are verified by scanning QR tags placed around the site.
- Incident reports, forms and logs are completed digitally through our CRM.
- Everything is recorded in real time, so there is a clear record of what was done, when and by whom.
- Our systems keep you informed of local changes, information and threats, so you can make good decisions on site.
- You will need to be comfortable using a smartphone and web-based applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Controlling pedestrian and vehicle access into and out of the construction site.
- Checking identification, site passes and relevant documentation before allowing entry.
- Greeting contractors, visitors and delivery drivers in a professional manner.
- Signing contractors, visitors and deliveries in and out in line with site procedures.
- Operating gates, barriers and other access-control systems.
- Monitoring vehicles entering and leaving the site and challenging any unauthorised or suspicious activity.
- Ensuring that only authorised personnel and vehicles access restricted areas, compounds and storage areas.
- Conducting regular security patrols of designated areas, including the site perimeter, fencing, compounds and material storage, scanning QR tags at each checkpoint.
- Protecting plant, equipment, tools and materials against theft, damage and unauthorised access.
- Monitoring CCTV, alarms and other security systems where applicable.
- Checking that gates, doors, cabins and containers are secured, and completing opening, closing and lock-up procedures.
- Completing digital incident reports, forms and logs accurately and on time through our CRM.
- Reporting security breaches, suspicious activity, hazards or other incidents immediately.
- Responding appropriately to alarms, emergencies and security incidents in line with site procedures.
- Assisting with emergency procedures, evacuations and other incidents when required.
- Following site health and safety rules, including wearing the required PPE at all times.
- Completing reasonable administrative or security-related duties as required by the client or Andor Group management.
Requirements
- Valid SIA Security Guarding or Door Supervisor Licence – Essential.
- Minimum three years’ professional security experience – Essential.
- Own vehicle and the ability to drive – Essential.
- Confident using a smartphone, QR scanning and digital forms – Essential.
- Previous experience on a construction site or similar environment is desirable.
- Good understanding of access control and physical security procedures.
- Ability and willingness to work rotating day and night shifts.
- Ability and willingness to conduct regular patrols throughout the shift.
- Confident in challenging unauthorised persons while remaining professional and courteous.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Professional appearance and conduct at all times.
- Good standard of written English and ability to complete accurate digital incident and patrol reports.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to follow site instructions and security procedures without exception.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be experienced, reliable and security-conscious, and comfortable working with technology. You will understand that a construction site needs constant awareness, good judgement and a firm but professional approach to access control.
You will be confident controlling access, conducting patrols, questioning individuals when necessary and enforcing site procedures consistently. You will take pride in accurate, timely digital reporting and value working in a way that is transparent and accountable. If you want to work for a company that is raising industry standards and redefining what good service looks like, you will fit in well.
