Service Technician – Security Systems

Pay: $18.00 – $40.00 per hour

Compensation is based on experience and skill level. We are open to both entry-level candidates who are interested in learning the security industry and experienced security technicians who can independently troubleshoot and service systems. Experienced candidates will be considered for compensation at the upper end of the range.

Job Description

We’re seeking a motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented Security System Service Technician to join our team. This position is primarily responsible for troubleshooting, servicing, repairing, and maintaining residential and commercial security systems.

This is a customer-facing position with significant face-to-face interaction in customers’ homes and businesses. The ideal candidate has strong troubleshooting skills, communicates well with customers, is comfortable working independently, and takes pride in solving problems and doing the job right.

Our technicians work on both current technology and existing systems that have been installed and maintained for many years. You should be comfortable learning and troubleshooting a wide variety of equipment rather than working with only one platform.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, service, and repair residential and commercial security systems
• Diagnose system problems and determine the appropriate repair or solution
• Service, program, and upgrade security panels, sensors, cameras, access control systems, and smart-home devices
• Work with current platforms such as Alarm.com, DSC Neo, and Qolsys, as well as legacy systems such as the Interlogix/GE Concord 4 and other older alarm equipment
• Perform system inspections, equipment replacements, upgrades, and preventative maintenance
• Troubleshoot low-voltage wiring and basic network/connectivity issues
• Test and verify proper system operation after completing service
• Communicate directly and professionally with customers, explaining system problems, repairs, and recommendations in an easy-to-understand manner
• Maintain accurate documentation of service performed and materials used
• Communicate with the office and other technicians regarding additional work, parts, or follow-up needed
• Maintain company vehicle, tools, and service inventory
• Uphold company standards for professionalism, neatness, quality, and safety
• Participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule (approximately one week every four weeks); additional compensation is provided for being on call, and after-hours field calls are paid at 1.5× the regular rate from departure from home through return home (“couch to couch”)

Qualifications

• Previous experience servicing or installing alarm, camera, access control, or other low-voltage systems preferred, but not required
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Working knowledge of low-voltage wiring and basic networking is preferred
• Comfortable working directly with customers in their homes and businesses
• Professional appearance, attitude, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage service calls efficiently
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work on ladders, above ceilings, or in crawlspaces
• Must pass background and drug screening

Experience:

Security System Technician experience preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate.

Work Location: On the road

Pay: $18.00 - $38.00 per hour

Expected hours: 39.0 – 40.0 per week
