What they need

About ATTIC: ATTIC stands for "Alternatives to Traditional Incarceration of Citizens." We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to developing interventions that enable individuals to avoid unnecessary levels of incarceration, enhance community safety and provide a setting that facilitates treatment and the reduction of recidivism. We operate residential and other correctional programs throughout Wisconsin that provide case management, counseling and treatment groups, vocational training and high-risk client monitoring and supervision.

Security Support Specialist – Full-Time

ATTIC Correctional Services is seeking a dependable, confident Security Support Specialist to support our three residential facilities serving adult correctional clients in Madison. This is a hands-on position for someone who is comfortable maintaining structure, enforcing program expectations, engaging directly with clients, and helping maintain a safe and supportive residential environment.

The standard schedule is typically Monday–Friday, 4:00 p.m.–12:00 a.m. (2nd shift), with occasional weekend or other shift coverage as needed. This position supports all three of our Madison residential facilities, so you will regularly travel between locations during the course of your work.

What You’ll Do

This is not a traditional desk-based security position. You’ll spend most of your shift within the residential environment, interacting with clients, conducting facility rounds, assisting other staff, and helping ensure program rules and safety expectations are consistently maintained.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor client whereabouts, activities, and behavior and promptly report safety or security concerns.
  • Conduct regular facility checks and rounds while maintaining active client engagement.
  • Help maintain a safe, sober, structured residential environment.
  • Assist with client check-ins, breathalyzers, UAs, wand checks, and other monitoring procedures.
  • Complete client intake paperwork and orientation as needed.
  • Maintain accurate client and facility documentation, including daily logs, progress notes, sign-in/out records, and event reports.
  • Reinforce program rules, policies, procedures, and professional boundaries.
  • Assist with structured evening activities, chores, meal preparation, cleanup, and food storage.
  • Monitor facility cleanliness and report maintenance or supply needs.
  • Provide shift coverage when needed and work collaboratively with residential staff.

Who We’re Looking For

The strongest candidates will be comfortable working independently, making sound decisions, enforcing expectations appropriately, and building professional relationships with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.

Qualifications include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework preferred.
  • At least 3 years of related experience and/or education in areas such as corrections, CBRF/residential services, criminal justice, human services, psychology, sociology, security, social services, mental or behavioral health, or law enforcement.
  • Experience enforcing rules, policies, or procedures.
  • Strong judgment and the ability to work independently and assertively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word and recordkeeping.

Training related to CBRF services, NARCAN administration, Mental Health First Aid, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, fire safety, and standard precautions is also part of the position.

Why This Work Matters

Our residential programs operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and provide structured services for adult correctional clients. The Security Support Specialist plays an important role in maintaining safety and accountability while supporting clients as they work toward successful community reintegration.

ATTIC's approach incorporates Evidence-Based Practices and Trauma-Informed Care, with the goal of promoting positive behavior change, enhancing community safety, and reducing recidivism.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay: $21.00 per hour
Status: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Typical Schedule: Monday–Friday, 4:00 p.m.–12:00 a.m., with occasional weekend or alternate-shift coverage

Full-time benefits include:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Company-paid life insurance
  • Paid holidays
  • Vacation and sick time
  • 403(b)
  • Pension
  • Accident, GAP, and critical illness coverage
  • Voluntary life insurance
  • Pet insurance

If you are dependable, comfortable taking an active role in maintaining a structured environment, and interested in work that combines security, human services, and corrections, we encourage you to apply.
