We are recruiting for a passionate and dedicated Behaviour SEMH Mentor to join a specialist educational setting in Oakham, supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone who is committed to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, build emotional resilience, and develop the skills needed to achieve positive outcomes both in education and beyond.
Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals, you will provide consistent support to pupils who may experience emotional dysregulation, behavioural challenges, anxiety, trauma, or difficulties engaging with education. Your role will be centred around building positive relationships, promoting wellbeing, and supporting pupils to succeed within a structured and nurturing environment.
The Role
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote engagement, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges.
- Act as a positive role model, helping pupils develop self-esteem, resilience, and appropriate social skills.
- Support pupils to identify, understand, and regulate their emotions using consistent and supportive approaches.
- Promote positive behaviour through restorative practices, de-escalation techniques, and relational support strategies.
- Work closely with teaching staff to support pupils in accessing learning and remaining engaged during lessons.
- Deliver targeted interventions focused on emotional literacy, confidence building, behaviour support, and social development.
- Support pupils during transitions, unstructured times, and throughout the school day to reduce barriers to learning.
- Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress, wellbeing, attendance, and behavioural outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure pupils receive consistent support and intervention.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
- Has a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with SEMH needs.
- Is patient, resilient, empathetic, and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
- Can build strong, professional relationships with pupils who may have experienced significant barriers to education.
- Has excellent communication, interpersonal, and behaviour management skills.
- Understands the impact that social, emotional, and mental health needs can have on learning and development.
