What they need

SEN Support Worker – Term Time

Pay: £13.50–£14.00 per hour, depending on experience
Hours: Ideally full-time, term time only. We are happy to discuss alternative hours for the right candidate.

ASPIRE: Lifeskills Learning Centre is looking for a supportive, reliable and enthusiastic Support Worker / Teaching Assistant to join our team.

We work with young people aged 11–19 with a range of additional needs. Our students benefit from a supportive, individualised approach, and much of the role involves working closely with young people on a 1:1 basis or in very small groups.

We are particularly interested in finding someone who has an interest in sports and/or computer games, as these are interests shared by some of the young people the successful candidate is likely to support. Being able to use a young person's interests to build positive relationships and encourage engagement is an important part of the role.

We are ideally looking for someone who:

  • Has at least one year's experience working within an SEN setting
  • Is patient, calm and able to build positive relationships with young people
  • Is comfortable working 1:1 and as part of a small team
  • Has an interest in sports and/or computer games
  • Is willing to support young people both academically and with their wider personal and social development
  • Is confident supporting young people who may sometimes display behaviours that challenge
  • Ideally has previous physical intervention/restraint training or practical experience of safely supporting young people where physical intervention has been necessary

Physical intervention is always considered a last resort, but due to the needs of some of our young people, applicants should be comfortable with this being a potential part of the role and undertaking appropriate training where required.

The position is term time only, and while we are ideally looking for someone who can work full-time, we are willing to discuss hours for a candidate who we feel would be a particularly good fit for our young people and our team.

If you are looking for a role where you can build meaningful working relationships with young people and help them develop their confidence, independence and ability to engage with education and the wider world, we would be pleased to hear from you.

Pay: £13.50–£14.00 per hour depending on experience.

Pay: From £13.50 per hour

Expected hours: 25.0 – 35.0 per week

Work Location: In person
