The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, teaching staff, support staff, parents and external professionals to develop and implement effective SEND provision across the school. They will help foster an inclusive learning environment where every pupil is supported to reach their academic, social and emotional potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the school's SEND provision, ensuring pupils receive appropriate support and interventions.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment and monitoring of pupils with additional needs.
  • Ensure the school meets its statutory responsibilities in line with the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to develop effective strategies, adapt teaching approaches and promote inclusive classroom practice.
  • Coordinate and review Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), including annual reviews and provision planning.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, local authorities and external professionals to ensure a joined-up approach to pupil support.
  • Monitor the progress, attainment, attendance and wellbeing of pupils with SEND, identifying opportunities for further development.
  • Provide guidance, training and support to teaching and support staff to strengthen their understanding of SEND.
  • Oversee appropriate interventions and support strategies, evaluating their impact on pupil outcomes.
  • Contribute to school improvement planning and the ongoing development of inclusive practice.

The Ideal Candidate

The school is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable SEND professional who can demonstrate:

  • Experience working within a SENCO, SEND leadership or equivalent specialist SEND role.
  • A strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice, EHCP processes and statutory responsibilities.
  • The ability to identify additional needs and implement effective support strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
  • Strong organisational skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate SEND records.
  • Experience supporting and advising teachers on adaptive teaching, differentiation and inclusive practice.
  • A commitment to improving outcomes for pupils with SEND and promoting a positive, inclusive school culture.

The relevant SENCO qualification or willingness to undertake appropriate training will be considered in line with the school's requirements.
