What they need
We are currently recruiting for a Curriculum Support Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Peterborough, supporting children with a wide range of additional needs. The school caters for pupils with diverse learning profiles, including Autism, ADHD, Moderate, Severe, and Profound Learning Difficulties. These include Speech, Language and Communication Needs, SEMH needs, and associated sensory or communication differences.
The setting is committed to providing a highly inclusive, nurturing, and engaging learning environment where pupils are encouraged to achieve their individual potential. Staff work collaboratively to deliver personalised support that enables learners to access the curriculum, develop independence, strengthen social skills, and build confidence both within education and beyond. This role is 5 days a week, with two shift patterns available.
Key responsibilities:
- Work alongside teaching staff to deliver differentiated lessons, adapting resources and approaches to meet individual learning needs.
- Provide one-to-one and small group support focused on academic progress, communication skills, social development, and independence.
- Follow an EYFS curriculum through 4 different pathways: informal, semi-formal, pre-formal and formal.
- Use a range of strategies including visual supports, sensory resources, modelling, and adapted communication techniques to promote understanding and engagement.
- Encourage positive participation, helping pupils develop confidence, resilience, and a sense of achievement.
- Support pupils with varying communication abilities, including those who are pre-verbal or require alternative forms of communication.
- Promote independence by encouraging pupils to develop life skills, decision-making abilities, and self-help strategies.
- Assist with emotional regulation and wellbeing, providing calm and consistent support to help pupils remain engaged throughout the school day.
- Support pupils during classroom activities, breaktimes, enrichment sessions, educational visits, and transition periods.
Pre Reqs:
- Experience working with children or young people within education, SEND, childcare, care, youth work, coaching, mentoring, residential settings, or similar support roles.
- Understanding of a range of special educational needs and the importance of adapting support to meet individual requirements.
- Confidence supporting pupils with differing communication styles, learning abilities, and social or emotional needs.
- Ability to build positive, professional relationships that support engagement, progress, and wellbeing.
- Experience delivering or supporting structured learning activities and interventions.
- Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, Childcare, Health & Social Care, Youth Work, or equivalent transferable experience are desirable.
