This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about SEND and wants to make a genuine difference to learners who may require additional support with their education, communication, behaviour, emotional regulation and independence.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, You Will
- Support learners on a 1:1 basis and within small groups/classroom settings.
- Work with pupils with a range of needs, which may include Autism (ASD), ADHD, learning disabilities, communication needs, SEMH and complex needs.
- Support learners to engage with lessons, activities and interventions.
- Adapt resources and communication to meet individual learning needs.
- Use strategies such as visual timetables, now-and-next boards, picture cards and sensory resources where appropriate.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and behaviours that may challenge.
- Encourage confidence, communication, independence and positive social interaction.
- Work closely with teachers, therapists and the wider SEND team.
- Follow individual support plans, EHCP outcomes and safeguarding procedures.
- Provide personal care where required, depending on the needs of the learners.
The Ideal Candidate
We Are Looking For Someone Who
- Has previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
- Is calm, patient, nurturing and resilient.
- Understands that behaviour can be a form of communication.
- Can build positive and trusting relationships with learners.
- Is confident adapting their approach to meet individual needs.
- Has strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Holds a relevant Teaching Assistant/SEND qualification or has suitable experience.
- Has, or is willing to obtain, an Enhanced DBS and complete the necessary safeguarding checks.
Experience within a SEND school, alternative provision, residential setting or specialist education environment would be advantageous.

If you are passionate about SEND and believe you have the patience, understanding and commitment needed to support learners to thrive, we would love to hear from you.
