What they need
We're recruiting on behalf of one of the Waikato's most respected Chartered Accounting firms, based in Matamata. With a long-established reputation for delivering exceptional service and building trusted client relationships, this firm has become a go-to advisor for rural, commercial, and family-owned businesses throughout the region. Due to continued growth and increasing demand for advisory services, they're looking to add an experienced Senior Accountant to their team.
This is an opportunity with a firm where people tend to stay long-term because of the quality of work, supportive culture, and the firm's commitment to ongoing professional development. You'll be given the opportunity to work closely with business owners, build meaningful client relationships, and develop your skills beyond traditional compliance-focused accounting.
As a Senior Accountant, you'll manage your own portfolio of clients while providing a combination of compliance and value-add advisory services. You'll become a trusted advisor, helping clients understand their financial position, navigate challenges, identify opportunities, and make informed business decisions. You'll also play an important role within the team by mentoring junior accountants and helping develop the next generation of accounting professionals.
What you'll be doing
- Managing a portfolio of rural, commercial, and family-owned business clients
- Preparing annual financial statements, tax returns, and compliance work
- Providing proactive accounting, taxation, and business advisory services
- Assisting clients with budgeting, cashflow forecasting, and management reporting
- Identifying risks, opportunities, and areas for business improvement
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships
- Mentoring and supporting junior team members
- Working closely with Managers and Partners on advisory projects and strategic initiatives
- Contributing to process improvements and best-practice initiatives
What you'll bring
- Previous experience in public practice accounting at a Senior Accountant level
- Strong knowledge of New Zealand accounting and taxation principles
- CA qualified or working towards CA accreditation (preferred)
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Strong organisational and time management abilities
- A proactive and client-focused approach
- A genuine interest in value-add advisory work
What's in it for you?
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience and aligned with the current market
- Hybrid working arrangements available following a successful onboarding period
- Ongoing professional development and career progression opportunities
- Exposure to a diverse and high-quality client portfolio
- Direct access to experienced Managers and Partners
- Opportunities to further develop advisory and leadership skills
- A supportive and collaborative culture within a highly respected Waikato firm
