About the role

As a Senior Accountant in the Private Business & Family Advisory team, you will play a critical role in delivering a wide range of business services to a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals and complex business groups.

Reporting to the Manager, this opportunity will see you providing real value-added support across accounting, tax and advisory work for a diverse client base.

The role combines technical competence with commercial acumen. You will be hands-on in the preparation of financial statements, tax returns and activity statements, while also contributing to the development of the team by supporting, coaching and mentoring junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Preparation of financial statements, activity statements and tax returns for all entity types and individuals, including trusts and corporate entities
• Identifying and managing tax issues such as Division 7A loans, fringe benefits tax, CGT events, SBE and depreciation concessions
• Undertaking periodic management reporting, budgeting and forecasting on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis
• Participating and contributing to tax and accounting planning and forecasting meetings for clients
• Supporting the management of a portfolio of complex and non-complex engagements to ensure they are completed in a timely manner
• Reviewing the work of junior staff for accuracy and recommending improvements to their accounting assignments
• Coaching and mentoring junior team members and supporting their development
• Identifying opportunities to improve systems, procedures and processes

About you

• CA or CPA qualification held, or close to completion
• 3-5 years' experience in a similar accounting or professional services role
• Ability to prepare financial statements and tax returns for multiple and complex entities, including various trusts and corporate entities
• Ability to undertake tax planning recommendations for clients
• Familiarity with accounting software such as Xero, Now Infinity, Practice Ignition or GreatSoft
• Superior written and oral communication skills
• Strong numeracy and analytical skills with the ability to interpret and make sense of data
• Strong time management skills with the ability to be agile with changing priorities and deadlines
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
• Ability to coach, mentor and lead junior staff
