Senior Accountant

Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL

Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join a growing organization in the Fort Lauderdale area. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in the day-to-day accounting operations, month-end close, general ledger management, reconciliations, and financial reporting.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, strong QuickBooks and ERP system experience, and a solid understanding of GAAP. A Bachelor’s degree is required. CPA certification is a plus but not required. These requirements are consistent with Senior Accountant roles currently being advertised in the Fort Lauderdale market.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the general ledger, ensuring transactions are properly recorded and classified.
• Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries.
• Perform monthly bank, balance sheet, and general ledger reconciliations.
• Support and help drive the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
• Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Analyze account activity and investigate discrepancies and variances.
• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable oversight as needed.
• Maintain accurate fixed asset and depreciation schedules.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities.
• Assist with internal and external audit requests, including preparation of schedules and supporting documentation.
• Ensure accounting activities comply with GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.
• Work extensively within QuickBooks and ERP systems to maintain accurate financial information.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, controls, and system efficiencies.
• Partner with management and other departments to resolve accounting issues and provide financial information.
• Assist the Controller/Accounting Manager with special projects and additional accounting responsibilities as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field – REQUIRED
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience – REQUIRED
• Strong hands-on QuickBooks experience – REQUIRED
• Previous experience working with an ERP system – REQUIRED
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
• Solid experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA – Plus, but NOT required
• Experience working in a fast-paced or growing organization
• Experience improving accounting processes and ERP/accounting-system workflows
• Experience supporting external audits and year-end close

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Senior Accountant who can step in quickly and take ownership of core accounting functions. This person should be comfortable working independently, digging into the general ledger, performing reconciliations, meeting close deadlines, and working across both QuickBooks and ERP environments .
