Senior Accountant (Construction Industry)

JOB PURPOSE

The Senior Accountant will take ownership of financial reporting, budgeting, VAT compliance, and month-end closing activities, combining strong technical accounting knowledge with construction or contracting industry experience. The role involves ensuring accurate and timely financial information, supporting management decision-making, and maintaining compliance with UAE regulatory requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.

• Manage the month-end and year-end closing process, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly and on schedule.

• Prepare and monitor budgets and forecasts, tracking variances and reporting on financial performance.

• Ensure accurate and timely VAT filing and compliance with UAE tax regulations.

• Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules prepared by junior accounting staff.

• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.

• Support project-level cost tracking and reporting in coordination with project management and procurement teams.

• Liaise with external auditors, banks, and regulatory bodies as required.

• Maintain and improve internal controls and financial procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.

• Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff, and support wider team development.

• Ensure all financial activities are fully documented and compliant with company procedures and UAE regulatory requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• 6–10 years of accounting experience.

• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, VAT, and month-end closing.

• Construction or contracting experience preferred.

• Experience using ERP – Sage 300.

• Immediate availability is an advantage.

• Strong technical accounting knowledge, including financial reporting standards and VAT regulations.

• Advanced proficiency in Sage 300 and MS Excel.

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and identify trends or risks.

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to review and guide junior accounting staff.

• Effective communication and coordination skills across finance, project, and management functions.

• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
