What they need

An Australian medical device company developing next generation continuous biosensor technology is building out its algorithm capability and now hiring a Senior Algorithm Engineer – Device Calibration to take ownership of the calibration and signal processing algorithms behind its device platform.

In this role, you will own the algorithm development that turns manufacturing variability, bench data, and physiological signal data into reliable calibration algorithms for a continuous biosensor monitoring device, a category of biosensor that has not been brought to this level of maturity before. You'll work closely with manufacturing and preclinical teams to design the experiments that generate the right data, then translate that into product grade calibration algorithms that account for variability across production batches. This is a hands-on, product facing role for someone who has done this kind of work before, ideally in glucose monitoring, handheld diagnostics, or blood gas devices, and who brings authority and credibility to a capability the company is actively rebuilding. You'll be as comfortable owning a difficult calibration problem end to end as you are pushing back on the idea that more data is always the answer. Over time, there is real opportunity to grow and lead the team as the function scales.

This role is open to candidates based in the US. Fully remote arrangements will be considered for the right person, and for those interested in relocating to Australia, visa sponsorship is a possibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own algorithm development for device calibration, translating manufacturing variability and physiological signal data into product grade calibration algorithms.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and preclinical teams, driving the design of experiments needed to generate the right data for algorithm development.
  • Apply physiological signal processing expertise to a continuous biosensor monitoring system, addressing both device centric signal processing and the broader modelling work.
  • Build algorithms to a standard suitable for medical device software development, working within the company's quality and process framework.
  • Take ownership of algorithm decisions rather than falling back on data scarcity as a reason not to progress.
  • Contribute to future team growth, with the potential to build and lead a data and algorithm function over time.
  • Stay hands-on and product facing, bridging the gap between academic modelling approaches and real world manufacturing constraints.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience in algorithm development for device performance calibration, ideally involving physiological or biological signal processing.
  • Comfortable working with Python and C++, with algorithm work that can translate to embedded, on-device implementation. MATLAB experience helpful but not essential.
  • Background in medical device, biosensors, glucose monitoring/CGM, handheld diagnostics, or blood gas devices strongly preferred; adjacent highly regulated industries such as aerospace, defence, or automotive also considered where algorithm based performance calibration and process variability are well understood.
  • Understanding of process control and manufacturing variability, and how to translate that into algorithm design.
  • Genuinely product and delivery focused, comfortable driving the data generation strategy rather than waiting for a complete dataset.

Desirable but not essential

  • Direct experience in continuous glucose monitoring or similar continuous biosensor technology.
  • Background in process/chemical engineering with an added data science or algorithm capability.
  • Experience operating in a small, fast moving company rebuilding or scaling a technical function.
