ABOUT THE ROLE:
This position is based on site at Rocket Lab's APC office at Auckland Production Complex. The Senior Analytics Engineer, as part of the Business Intelligence team, is responsible for driving strategic initiatives with measurable business impact, architecting scalable data solutions, and shaping team technical direction. This senior-level role emphasizes technical leadership and strategic thinking, with time allocated to: 40% architecture/code, 30% mentoring, 20% collaboration, and 10% learning. You will design data architecture, establish engineering standards, lead analytical initiatives, and mentor team members while supporting the Business Intelligence/IT organization with enterprise-level deliverables that drive business strategy and operational excellence. Your professional goal at this level involves driving strategic initiatives with measurable business impact, architect scalable solutions, and shape team technical direction.

YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher or in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Engineering, Science, Statistics, or related field
• 4+ years of relevant industry experience
• SQL performance tuning expertise including execution plans, indexing strategies, and optimization at enterprise scale
• Advanced database modeling with ability to design data architectures and dimensional models across multiple subject areas
• Multiple ETL/ELT tools proficiency including hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, SSIS, and Databricks
• Advanced dbt expertise including building custom packages, reusable frameworks, and metadata-driven solutions
• Python for data engineering with ability to build scalable data processing solutions and automation
• Semantic layer and BI data modeling expertise with ability to design enterprise semantic layers using TDML or similar languages
• Advanced Power BI skills including DAX, M Query, embedded analytics, APIs, and BI governance implementation
• Strategic thinking and business acumen with proven ability to influence business strategy with data insights
• Cross-functional business knowledge with ability to gather requirements, facilitate workshops, and design KPI frameworks
• Technical leadership with demonstrated ability to establish engineering standards, mentor team members, and lead multiple projects

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:

• Certifications in (PL-300, PL-900, AI-900, AZ-204, PL-200, DP-600, DP-203, DP-700, RL-400)
• Data architecture patterns expertise including streaming and real-time data processing
• Multiple BI platform expertise with hands-on experience in Tableau and Grafana in addition to Power BI
• Semantic languages proficiency with TDML or other semantic modeling languages
• Git/CI-CD advanced experience including branching strategies, code review practices, and TeamCity or GitHub Actions
• Performance optimization at scale with proven track record of improving query and dashboard performance
• Public speaking or conference presentations on data engineering or analytics topics
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Excellent Problem Solving and Analysis Skills
• Cloud computing and deployment experience
• Experience with Data Science tools
• Experience implementing Machine Learning models
• Agile experience

Salary dependent upon experience: NZD $96,000-$121,850
