What they need

Holycode is looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer with strong BigQuery and dbt experience to join our team in Bucharest.

You will help build and improve analytics pipelines on Google Cloud, ensuring that business teams have access to reliable, timely data. Working closely with engineering and business stakeholders, you will improve data models, optimise warehouse costs and develop practical solutions that scale with business needs.

What awaits you:

  • Assess and improve analytics pipelines connecting operational databases, BigQuery, dbt and business intelligence tools.
  • Develop and maintain dbt models that transform raw data into reliable datasets for reporting and analysis.
  • Identify BigQuery cost drivers by analysing query history, data scanned and resource usage.
  • Optimise table design through partitioning, clustering and appropriate materialisation strategies.
  • Improve incremental processing and reduce unnecessary full refreshes.
  • Design data refresh schedules that balance business needs, data freshness and infrastructure costs.
  • Support near-real-time analytics for selected datasets using suitable ingestion and transformation approaches.
  • Improve workflow orchestration, automated data quality checks, logging and failure handling.
  • Collaborate with analytics users to improve dashboard performance and reduce unnecessary warehouse queries.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly, prioritising improvements by expected impact and implementation effort.
  • Document data models, dependencies and operational procedures.

What we expect from you:

  • At least five years of experience in data engineering or analytics engineering.
  • At least two to three years of hands-on production experience with BigQuery.
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience working with complex analytical datasets.
  • Strong practical experience with dbt, including incremental models, materialisations, tests, tags and selectors.
  • Proven experience optimising BigQuery performance and costs through partitioning, clustering, partition pruning and query analysis.
  • Familiarity with BigQuery INFORMATION_SCHEMA and the trade-offs between consumption-based and capacity-based pricing.
  • Experience with change data capture or streaming ingestion into BigQuery.
  • An understanding of how BI tools and dashboard queries affect warehouse performance and cost.
  • Experience with Git and automated data workflows.
  • A pragmatic approach to problem-solving, with the ability to explain technical trade-offs and prioritise improvements.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Availability to work onsite from our Bucharest office.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with PostgreSQL replication and logical decoding.
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Datastream.
  • Experience with Metabase, including query caching and efficient dashboard design.
  • Experience using GitHub Actions for data workflows.
  • Familiarity with dbt Cloud, Dagster or Airflow.
  • Experience with OpenTofu or Terraform on Google Cloud.
  • Relevant dbt or Google Cloud certifications.
  • German language skills.

Why you will love working here:

  • Technical challenges with opportunities to improve data reliability, performance and cost efficiency.
  • A welcoming working atmosphere in an open-minded multinational team.
  • An office-based role in Bucharest, with close collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • All the necessary equipment to support your work.
  • A budget for professional development, including courses, conferences and books.
  • A flexible benefits budget.
  • Premium private medical subscription with nationwide coverage.
  • Skilled and experienced colleagues.
  • Opportunities to build products that make a difference.
  • Opportunities to learn and grow with us.

If you enjoy turning complex data pipelines into reliable, efficient analytics solutions, please submit your CV in English.
