The project is currently in the early software architecture and design phase, offering an opportunity to contribute to key technical decisions and shape a high-quality, automotive-grade solution from the ground up.
The solution will be built on an AOSP-based Android Automotive platform, leveraging Kotlin, Java, and C++, with media casting technologies such as Google Cast and Apple AirPlay.
You will join a collaborative, process-oriented engineering team that will grow to 10+ engineers at peak capacity. The team follows Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) best practices tailored to the OEM’s processes, with a strong emphasis on technical excellence, engineering quality, and automotive industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop media casting software components for the AOSP-based Android Automotive platform.
- Contribute to software architecture, component design, and API definition, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and performance.
- Review and analyze AOSP Android Automotive source code to identify integration opportunities and potential improvements.
- Optimize media casting components from architectural, algorithmic, and performance perspectives.
- Develop and maintain high-quality software using Kotlin, Java, and C++.
- Implement reliable multithreaded and concurrent solutions, addressing potential race conditions, deadlocks, and memory management issues.
- Conduct code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices and coding standards.
- Develop and execute unit tests to ensure software reliability and maintainability.
- Participate in Scaled Agile ceremonies and collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Contribute to technical discussions, evaluate alternative solutions, and support architectural decisions aligned with project objectives.
- Ensure compliance with automotive-grade software quality standards and established engineering processes.
Required Qualifications
- Strong Kotlin development skills and a solid understanding of Android application architecture.
- Good knowledge of C++, including memory management and STL containers.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and API design principles.
- Proficiency in multithreading and concurrency using Kotlin Coroutines and/or RxJava.
- Hands-on experience with Android Studio and Gradle.
- Strong expertise in Android Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) and Android system services.
- Practical experience with concurrency challenges, including race conditions, deadlocks, and thread synchronization.
- Experience with unit testing and software debugging tools.
- Understanding of the full software development lifecycle, from design and implementation to testing and maintenance.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban, and established software engineering practices.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to evaluate technical alternatives and propose solutions aligned with business objectives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently as well as within a team.
- Creativity, initiative, and a strong willingness to take ownership of technical challenges.
- English proficiency at Upper-Intermediate level (B2) or higher.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
Nice to Have
- Good understanding of Android Automotive platform architecture.
- Familiarity with media casting technologies, including Google Cast and Apple AirPlay.
- Experience with bug-tracking tools such as Jira or Bugzilla.
- Proficiency with Git, including branching strategies, pull requests, and release tagging.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or GitHub Actions.
- Experience with build management tools such as CMake and Make.
- Scripting experience with Python and Bash.
- Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Ability and willingness to independently learn new technologies and adapt to evolving project requirements.
