Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Application Developer with DevOps engineering experience to join a software engineering team focused on enterprise application modernization, migration, and platform optimization.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Java, Jakarta EE, Spring Boot, Maven, and REST API development, along with experience supporting application migrations from JBoss to WildFly and deployments to Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS).

This role requires strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, an understanding of application architecture and dependencies, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve application security, reliability, maintainability, and performance. Experience leveraging AI tools to improve development workflows and creating custom AI skills is also highly desirable.

Important: Candidates must currently reside within a 100-mile radius of Kansas City, and availability for an in-person interview in Kansas City is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, modernize, and enhance enterprise applications using Java and Jakarta EE.
• Modernize existing applications using Spring Framework and Spring Boot.
• Support application migration initiatives from JBoss to WildFly and Amazon EKS.
• Assess application architectures, dependencies, interfaces, compatibility, and migration risks.
• Analyze and resolve application compatibility issues arising from JBoss-to-WildFly migrations.
• Manage Maven builds, including parent POMs, Bills of Materials (BOMs), dependency management, and plugin configurations.
• Develop, integrate, and maintain RESTful APIs and application interfaces.
• Reduce security vulnerabilities and technical risks through library upgrades, framework upgrades, and platform migrations.
• Perform root-cause analysis, troubleshoot production issues, and implement effective solutions.
• Conduct performance testing, application tuning, and optimization.
• Collaborate with software engineers, architects, and cross-functional teams to deliver migration and modernization objectives.
• Apply sound software engineering practices to improve code readability, maintainability, automated testing, and overall quality.
• Follow SOLID design principles and proactively minimize code complexity and cognitive load.
• Leverage AI tools to support development responsibilities, improve productivity, and develop custom AI skills.
• Participate in daily stand-ups, communicate progress, identify blockers, and coordinate work with team members.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to other developers when needed.

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with Java and Jakarta EE .
• Proven experience modernizing enterprise applications using Spring and Spring Boot .
• Strong expertise in Maven , including parent POMs, BOMs, dependency management, and plugin configuration.
• Experience developing and integrating REST APIs .
• Experience assessing applications, dependencies, interfaces, and migration risks.
• Experience with application modernization, platform migration, and dependency or framework upgrades.
• Knowledge of vulnerability reduction and secure application development practices.
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience using AI tools to support software development activities, including developing custom AI skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative software engineering team.
• Must reside within a 100-mile radius of Kansas City.
• Must be available for an in-person technical interview in Kansas City.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience deploying and operating applications on Kubernetes.
• Hands-on experience administering, configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting JBoss and WildFly.
• Experience identifying and resolving compatibility issues during JBoss-to-WildFly migrations.
• Familiarity with Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS).
• Strong understanding of SOLID design principles and software design best practices.
• Experience designing maintainable, testable, and easily understandable code.
• Commitment to software quality, automated testing, and continuous improvement.
• Experience with application performance testing and tuning in enterprise environments.

Interview Process

1. Initial Screening: A 15–20-minute remote screening with the lead architect and hiring team.
2. Technical Interview: Candidates who pass the initial screening will be invited to a 90-minute in-person interview and skills assessment at the Kansas City office.

Contract Details

• Target Start Date: November 17, 2026, with some flexibility.
• Expected Duration: Approximately 12 months, through November 2027.
• Extension: Possible, depending on business needs and performance.

Location requirement: Only candidates residing within a 100-mile radius of Kansas City who can attend the mandatory in-person technical interview will be considered.
