Senior ASR Engineer - Remote Position

Position summary

We are looking for a Senior ASR Engineer for our ASR R&D team to work on challenging research problems that have a concrete impact on real-world applications – the work you do will impact real users across the world. You will perform a role mixing both research and development of cutting-edge technologies by staying current on state-of-the-art algorithms in related fields; evaluating the usage patterns of customers via big data analysis; building models to improve core ASR accuracy of individual products and contributing to the model recipe improvements.

Principal duties and responsibilities

• Conduct experiments to assess the quality of ASR models and study the effect of different parameter tuning on speech recognition accuracy.
• Identify, optimise and cluster training data.
• Analyse product usage data to identify areas of possible improvement or enhancement of ASR processes, methods and techniques.
• Discuss and present ideas, progress, and results within the research team.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and deliver high-quality results.
• Conduct research and stay up to date with the latest advancements in the field.
• Improve ASR performance in multiple languages.

Knowledge, skills, and qualifications

Education: Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in computer science, computational linguistics, applied mathematics, or a related field.

Minimum years of work experience: 5+ years

Required skills:

• Background in speech technology, computational linguistics, machine translation and/or natural language processing.
• Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with end-to-end ASR and language modelling, including training methods, finetuning, pruning, efficient representation, interpolation, etc.
• Solid understanding of machine learning principles, algorithms, and statistical methods.
• Good software engineering skills, knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. shell scripting, Python) and experience working under both Linux and Windows.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English.

Preferred skills:

• Experience with generative AI/LLMs, prompt engineering and finetuning.
• Expertise in one or more of the following areas: machine learning, statistical modelling, information retrieval, deep learning, data mining.
• Fluent in a second, non-English language.
