TIAA is seeking a highly skilled AI Engineer to drive the next phase of AI transformation across the Law & Policy (L&P) function. This role will focus on designing, building, and scaling AI-powered agents (e.g., LawAigent) that enhance legal, compliance, and risk workflows.

The AI Engineer will partner closely with legal SMEs, product leaders, and enterprise AI/platform teams to translate business problems into intelligent, context-aware agent solutions. This role is critical in accelerating adoption of AI-driven automation for legal document analysis, compliance workflows, knowledge retrieval, and decision support.

Key Responsibilities

AI Agent Development & Delivery

• Design, build, and deploy AI agents for legal and compliance use cases (e.g., contract review, regulatory Q&A, policy interpretation)
• Develop multi-step agent workflows using LLMs, orchestration frameworks, and enterprise integrations
• Integrate agents with enterprise systems (DMS One/SharePoint, Onit, email, knowledge repositories)

AI Engineering & Context Design

• Apply context engineering techniques to improve AI output relevance, grounding, and precision
• Design structured prompts, system instructions, and memory patterns to enable reliable agent behavior
• Optimize agent performance through iterative tuning, evaluation, and feedback loops
• Ensure outputs are accurate, consistent, and scalable

Platform & Tooling Enablement

• Build and deploy solutions using enterprise AI platforms (e.g., MYGAIT)
• Utilize modern AI development tools including Kiro, Claude CoWorker, or similar AI-assisted engineering environments
• Develop reusable templates, agent patterns, and design standards

Cloud & Deployment

• Architect and deploy AI solutions using cloud-native technologies (Azure preferred)
• Develop scalable APIs, microservices, and production-ready services
• Implement monitoring, logging, and performance optimization for AI applications

Business & Stakeholder Collaboration

• Translate business problems into scalable AI-driven solutions
• Support UAT cycles, user onboarding, and continuous improvement

AI Governance & Risk Alignment

• Ensure alignment with Responsible AI, model governance, and enterprise controls
• Implement safeguards for data privacy, reliability, and auditability

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering or software engineering with AI applications
• Highly proficient in Python with strong hands-on development experience
• Strong foundation in machine learning and applied AI techniques
• Proven experience in building AI tools, platforms, or agent-based solutions

Core Expertise

• LLM-based application development and orchestration
• Context engineering, prompt design, and agent behavior tuning
• API integration and scalable system design
• Designing multi-step workflows leveraging AI agents

AI Development Tooling

• Experience using AI-assisted development tools, such as:
  • Kiro
  • Claude CoWorker
  • Or similar AI coding / co-pilot environments

Cloud & Engineering

• Experience with cloud-based AI deployments (Azure/AWS/GCP)
• Building production-grade AI services and APIs
• Familiarity with containerization and scalable distributed systems

Preferred Skills (Technology-Focused)

• Experience with distributed systems and high-availability architectures
• Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices for AI/ML deployment
• Experience with data pipelines, streaming frameworks, or event-driven architectures
• Knowledge of performance optimization, caching strategies, and scalability patterns
• Exposure to observability tools (logging, monitoring, tracing) for production AI systems
• Familiarity with testing frameworks for AI systems (evaluation pipelines, automated testing)
• Experience working with vector stores, embeddings, or large-scale data processing frameworks
• Understanding of secure coding practices and enterprise-grade application development
