The opportunity

We are building a dedicated consumer and financial redress department, and we are looking for an entrepreneurial lawyer to help build it from day one. You will work directly with, and deputise for, the senior partner leading the department. You will be their right hand in shaping how it runs, from case strategy and client journeys to technology, processes and growth, and you will step in for them with clients, stakeholders, key partners and the wider team when needed.

The work covers consumer redress across financial services and the wider corporate sector. It includes claims brought through regulatory redress schemes, complaints to the Financial Ombudsman Service, and complaints and claims against financial institutions and corporates outside of the Court process.

The role combines operations, project management, relationship building and disputes strategy, and will leverage your litigation experience.

It is a rare chance to help build a new business unit inside a firm with an established reputation. You will have real influence over how the department develops, and your role will grow as it does.

What you’ll be doing

This is a varied, hands-on role. No two weeks will look the same.

On the operations and project management side, you will help design and run high-volume claims processes, managing caseloads efficiently while keeping quality and client outcomes high. You will plan and deliver the department’s build: setting priorities, keeping workstreams on track and turning commercial goals into workable plans. You will play a central part in choosing, implementing and refining technology, including CRM and case management systems, automation and AI tools, and you will report regularly to the management board on performance, risk and progress.

You will also build and manage key relationships for the firm. Internally, you will work closely with the senior partner and colleagues across the business. Externally, you will build and manage key relationships.

At the same time, this is a legal role with real strategic substance . You will draw on your litigation experience to shape disputes strategy across the portfolio: deciding the best route to redress for each type of claim, whether that’s a complaint, a FOS referral, a regulatory redress scheme or litigation. You will spot where volume complaints point to wider issues that could support group litigation, and make sure the department’s processes stand up to scrutiny. Your judgement as a litigator will be central to making the department both efficient and effective.

As deputy to the senior partner , you will take ownership of significant parts of the department’s work, make decisions in their absence, and represent the department internally and externally.

What we’re looking for

We want someone with a genuinely entrepreneurial mindset: you see opportunities, take the initiative and are energised rather than daunted by building something new. You are comfortable with ambiguity, act on your own judgement and take ownership of results. This must be balanced with a strong track record of execution - you must be committed to delivering outcomes from cradle to grave.

You will have solid contentious experience, ideally in consumer, financial services or volume claims work, and a good understanding of redress schemes and the FOS complaints process. You are confident with technology and enjoy using it to work smarter, whether that means AI tools, different tech stacks or getting the most out of a CRM. You have strong project management skills and can keep several workstreams moving at once.

You communicate clearly and persuasively, in writing and in person, and you are comfortable reporting to senior stakeholders and deputising for a senior partner. Above all, you have the drive and commitment to build something, rather than step into a finished structure.
