Senior Associate

SENIOR ATTORNEY

We are a boutique law firm handling high value commercial and civil litigation matters. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional service to a select group of clients and are looking for an experienced and driven Senior Attorney to join our team.

The successful candidate will be expected to take responsibility for complex legal matters, work directly with clients and senior practitioners, and play an active role in the strategic management and progression of matters from inception through to conclusion.

Key Responsibilities:

• Independently manage and conduct complex commercial and litigation matters.
• Advise clients on legal and commercial issues and provide strategic, commercially focused advice.
• Conduct in depth legal research and prepare legal opinions, memoranda and other substantive legal documents.
• Draft and settle pleadings, notices, applications, affidavits, contracts, agreements, correspondence and other legal documentation.
• Attend and conduct court appearances, consultations, mediations, negotiations and client meetings, including local and regional travel where required.
• Take responsibility for the day to day management and progression of matters, including case strategy, procedural compliance, deadlines and client reporting.
• Liaise directly with clients, counsel, opposing attorneys, experts and other professional advisers.
• Work closely with senior practitioners on complex and high value matters and contribute meaningfully to litigation and commercial strategy.
• Supervise and provide guidance to junior attorneys, candidate attorneys and support staff where required.
• Manage multiple matters simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of accuracy, responsiveness and client service.

Requirements:

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
• Minimum 5 years’ post admission experience, preferably with substantial exposure to commercial and litigation matters.
• Demonstrable experience in independently managing legal matters from inception to conclusion.
• Exceptional drafting, legal research, analytical and communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of High Court procedure and litigation practice.
• Ability to exercise sound legal and commercial judgment and develop effective strategies for complex matters.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a small, high performance team.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage demanding deadlines across multiple matters.
• Professionalism, initiative, attention to detail and a commitment to delivering work of the highest standard.
• Willingness and ability to travel when required.
• A valid driver’s licence is required.
