About the Role

Makosi is seeking an experienced Senior Audit Consultant to support international clients operating within the technology, startup and venture capital ecosystem.

In this role, you will work closely with finance leaders, including CFOs, financial controllers and senior management, to deliver high-quality financial statement audits and address complex accounting and reporting matters. You will gain exposure to innovative, high-growth businesses, developing a deeper understanding of technology business models, venture-backed companies and the financial structures that support their growth.

This opportunity is ideal for an audit professional looking to expand beyond traditional audit execution, take ownership of client engagements, lead and mentor junior team members, and build strong relationships with international stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute financial statement audit engagements, including audit planning, risk assessments, fieldwork, review procedures and completion.
• Develop an understanding of technology companies, venture-backed businesses, startup operations, financing structures and key business performance metrics.
• Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for client stakeholders, including CFOs, financial controllers and finance teams, managing audit queries and maintaining effective working relationships.
• In-charge multiple audit engagements and supervise teams of approximately 2–3 associates, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality audit work.
• Research, analyse and resolve complex accounting and auditing matters relating to equity transactions, stock-based compensation, revenue recognition, debt financing and business combinations.
• Apply relevant auditing standards and financial reporting frameworks, ensuring compliance with applicable requirements and professional standards.
• Evaluate internal controls, identify financial reporting risks and assess the appropriateness of accounting treatments and disclosures.
• Communicate audit findings, technical accounting matters and recommendations clearly to client stakeholders and engagement leadership.
• Supervise, coach and mentor junior audit team members, providing technical guidance and supporting their professional development.
• Collaborate with Managers, Senior Managers and Partners to manage engagement progress, resolve technical matters and maintain audit quality.
• Develop an understanding of clients’ business objectives and operational challenges to contribute practical insights and support effective decision-making.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Honours degree in Accounting, Auditing or a related field with a strong accounting focus.
• Approximately 3–5 years of relevant external audit and assurance experience.
• Experience in an Audit Senior, Senior Associate or equivalent in-charge capacity.
• Strong knowledge of financial statement audits, audit planning, risk assessment, substantive testing and internal controls.
• Working knowledge of applicable financial reporting frameworks, including IFRS and/or US GAAP, depending on client requirements.
• Experience managing audit engagements, coordinating deliverables and communicating directly with client stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to review audit work, resolve audit queries and support the development of junior team members.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and organisational skills.
• High levels of professionalism, integrity, accountability and attention to detail.

Preferred Experience

• Experience auditing technology companies, startups or venture-backed businesses.
• Exposure to venture capital funding, equity transactions, stock-based compensation, debt financing and complex revenue recognition arrangements.
• Experience with business combinations, financial statement disclosures and complex accounting estimates.
• Previous responsibility as an engagement in-charge or primary day-to-day client contact.
• Experience working with international clients and geographically distributed audit teams.
• Progress towards or completion of a relevant professional accounting qualification, such as CA(SA), ACCA or CPA, where applicable.
