Senior Automation Engineer (DeltaV)

Mantell Associates is partnered with a leading global biopharmaceutical organization to recruit a Senior Automation Engineer (DeltaV) for its GMP biologics manufacturing site. The site has recently expanded with new commercial-scale capacity and next-generation automation technology. Manufacturing runs on Emerson DeltaV, integrated with Syncade MES and PI data historians.

As the DeltaV subject matter expert for GMP biologics manufacturing, you will keep process automation running as designed and drive improvements. You’ll troubleshoot live production issues, lead the controls side of tech transfers and new product introductions, and deliver DeltaV changes from specification through to release. This role suits engineers who have delivered busy DeltaV projects and live production support, not only steady-state maintenance.

Senior Automation Engineer (DeltaV) - Responsibilities:

• Act as DeltaV SME for Manufacturing and other departments on process automation design and operation
• Troubleshoot automation issues in the manufacturing suites through code review, alarm investigation and PI data analysis
• Design, configure and modify control modules, equipment modules, phases and batch recipes in line with ISA-88
• Develop and maintain DeltaV Operate / DeltaV Live graphics and operator displays
• Lead the controls workstream for tech transfers and new product introductions
• Write and review functional specifications, SOPs and test protocols, and execute testing and validation of changes
• Own change controls, deviations and CAPAs for automation systems
• Work with Syncade MES and PI teams on integration, batch records and data flows
• Act as Controls SME during audits and regulatory inspections
• Join the on-call rotation for out-of-hours production support

Senior Automation Engineer (DeltaV) - Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, chemical, controls or computer engineering, computer science or a related discipline
• 8+ years of hands-on Emerson DeltaV experience, including configuration, troubleshooting and change delivery
• Working knowledge of ISA-88 batch control
• GMP pharmaceutical or biotech experience, including change control, deviations and CAPA
• Strong root cause analysis and clear communication with Manufacturing, Quality and Engineering
• Able to work on-site and join an on-call rotation
• Mammalian cell culture or biologics drug substance manufacturing, including single-use bioreactors and downstream purification (preferred)
• Emerson Syncade MES and electronic batch records (preferred)
• OSIsoft PI / AVEVA PI (preferred)
• DeltaV Live and Graphics Studio (preferred)
• Rockwell, Siemens, FactoryTalk View or Wonderware (preferred)
• Tech transfer, CQV, FAT/SAT and GAMP 5 (preferred)
• Emerson DeltaV certifications (preferred)
