What they need
You know how to find the problem—not just read the code.
Can you look at scan-tool data, understand what the vehicle is telling you, and build a diagnostic plan that gets to the root cause? Are you comfortable handling complex repairs and programming vehicle modules when the job requires it?
We’d like to meet you.
Van Zeeland’s Auto Care Centers is looking for an experienced automotive technician with strong diagnostic skills, broad repair ability, and hands-on experience with module programming. We’re looking for someone who takes pride in figuring out why a component failed—not simply replacing it.
Serving the Fox Valley since 1937, Van Zeeland’s has grown to five locations by focusing on quality workmanship, accurate diagnosis, and customer trust. We’re looking for a technician who shares that commitment.
What you’ll do
- Diagnose engine performance and drivability concerns using live scan-tool data, freeze-frame information, fuel trims, misfire data, and other relevant test results.
- Develop and follow a logical diagnostic process using service information, wiring diagrams, technical service bulletins, and hands-on testing.
- Troubleshoot electrical and electronic problems, including wiring faults, sensor issues, and vehicle communication concerns.
- Perform a wide range of mechanical repairs across engine, cooling, fuel, ignition, braking, steering, suspension, HVAC, and drivetrain systems.
- Program, reflash, configure, and perform relearn procedures for vehicle modules as required, following manufacturer procedures.
- Document findings clearly so service advisors can explain recommended repairs to customers.
- Verify completed repairs through appropriate testing, road tests, and post-repair scans.
- Help maintain a clean, organized workplace and share technical knowledge with teammates.
What you bring
- Strong professional experience diagnosing and repairing a broad range of vehicle problems.
- The ability to interpret scan-tool data—not just retrieve and clear trouble codes.
- Confidence using diagnostic equipment, electrical test tools, and vehicle service information.
- Hands-on experience with OEM or J2534 pass-through programming tools and related software.
- The ability to work independently on challenging repairs while communicating effectively with the team.
- A quality-first approach, attention to detail, and pride in getting the repair right.
ASE certifications are valued, but demonstrated diagnostic and repair ability matters.
Let’s talk.
