Senior AWS Application Developer – AI Platform

Charles Alan is recruiting on behalf of a major financial services organisation building a new AI-enabled developer platform. We are looking for a hands-on senior AWS application developer to help shape it from the ground up.

The platform will take engineering teams from idea to production, with reusable development patterns, automation and governance built into the process. You’ll write production code, build developer tools and define patterns adopted across the business - with AI-assisted engineering at the heart of the team’s approach.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Build AWS-native applications, APIs, developer tools and integrations using Python, Lambda and API Gateway.

• Design and implement Step Functions workflows, including retries, error handling, state management and recovery.

• Develop production Python APIs with clear interfaces, validation, authentication, automated testing and observability.

• Build and deploy containerised applications using Docker and appropriate AWS container services.

• Write and maintain Terraform to provision application infrastructure through repeatable, controlled deployments.

• Create reusable application templates, quick starts and engineering patterns for cloud-native and AI-enabled applications.

• Automate software delivery through GitHub Actions, CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code.

• Build security, operational readiness and governance checks into development and deployment workflows.

• Work with application, cloud and security teams to turn requirements into working software.

YOU’LL BRING

Substantial hands-on AWS application development experience, with personal responsibility for writing, testing and deploying production services.

• AWS serverless: practical experience integrating Lambda, API Gateway and Step Functions in production applications.

• Step Functions: experience designing workflows and handling failures, retries, timeouts and duplicate processing.

• Terraform: experience writing and maintaining infrastructure code, including modules, state management and CI/CD deployment.

• Python API design: strong understanding of API structure, request and response models, validation, authentication, error handling and automated testing. Experience with FastAPI or a comparable framework.

• Containers: hands-on experience building Docker images and deploying containerised services, with an understanding of configuration, secrets, health checks and secure container practices.

• Software delivery: experience with GitHub Actions or comparable CI/CD tooling, code review, testing and release automation.

• Engineering quality: good practices around logging, monitoring, documentation, security and maintainable code.

• AI-assisted engineering: regular use of AI coding tools in your development workflow, with a clear approach to reviewing and testing generated code.

NICE TO HAVE

• Amazon Bedrock, AgentCore or other generative AI and agent frameworks.

• Building agentic applications, including tool calling, evaluations and guardrails.

• Internal developer platforms, self-service tooling, CLIs or reusable application templates.

• Automated governance, compliance checks and evidence capture.

• TypeScript and React for developer consoles.

• Financial services or another regulated environment.
